Basel - Bakeries that slice bread

Hi all,

As the title says, does any one know any bakeries and supermarkets in Basel that will slice a fresh loaf for you?

I know there are some supermarkets in Germany where they have slicing machines and wondered if there are any places here?

Yes, I now I could use a bread knife and slice it all myself but to do that you are assuming that I could slice nice and evenly (hint: I can’t).

Thanks

I don’t know about Basel but the large coop supermarket in Neuchâtel has a bread slicing machine.
Maybe try the large supermarkets.

The Coop at Signy has one as well.

I wonder if this is a Röstigraben thing. I have never seen or heard of bread slicing in the German speaking part of Switzerland. Coffee grinders in the supermarkets yes, the butcher will slice meat, but bread!!!

Amazon.de has a bread slicer for ca. CHF 40.

You can probably find better deals

Happy Bread from Migros is already sliced in the pack. Not my favorite but sometimes 10 mins before the shop closes is the only option available.

There are plenty of sliced breads around these days but I have not found one as good as a whole loaf, so I thick cut and freeze my own slices.

If I only had the room for such a thing.

However I have seen Victorninox have a bread knife with guide so may see if I can get hold of one of those.

Yeah, I have been buying MIgro Bio Toast as it has a short ingredients list and not so much sugar. But considering a change to freshly baked.

I found that Hieber over the boarder in Grenzach-Wyhlen has a bakery with slicing machine.

First world solution - driving to another country to get one’s bread sliced!

I was there anyway. Amazing how much shopping you can get in a couple of bike panniers.
