Basel cross border train//bus ticket?

How do people buy single tickets to say Weil or Lorrach? I can't make sense of the ticket machines, and neither the SBB app nor the SBB website will sell me a ticket. Don't make me queue up at the ticket desk... help!!

What about the TNW app? https://www.blt.ch/reisen/tickets/app-tickets.html

sbb.ch definitely will sell you a ticket to Lörrach. I just tried it - 9CHF single Basel SBB->Lörrach

You use the buttons at the bottom of the screen, iirc marked ticket tri-Regio.

(Sorry, it’s only in German)

Basically if you buy a 2 zone ticket from Basel Centre that’s good to St Louis or Weil.

I prefer shopping in st.louis over shopping in lörrach.

The supermarkets have a much bigger range of products, there is no queue at the border (for getting stamps at the customs).

Tram No.3 or Bus 604 will get you to the st.louis station.

If you got a GA, you only need an additional Ticket (sold at the green TNW Machines) for 1.90 sfr one way.

2-3 times more expensive than buying it from the german machine.

There is one at SBB at the 1st platform.

You can get a 4-times stamp ticket for 10-12€ I think (don't recall exactly).

The single ride, half fare price for Basel-Lörrach is CHF 3,60 / €3,10

A 6-times multi ticket has a 10% discount.

Tickets can be bought with the BLT app

Thanks for all the replies. I feel more enlightened but also slightly more confused. The suggestion that the 2 zone 2 hour ticket for 4.70 would carry me to Lörrach and back seemed appealing. I hadn't heard of TNW (thanks) so I emailed them through their website, since my German want quite good enough to figure out if the PDF link confirmed this. They wrote back in English refusing to confirm that this option would be valid (but also refusing to deny it) and instead telling me to buy a single ticket for 4.40 that is only valid in one direction. Based on what I've read elsewhere it seems a single direction ticket bought in Switzerland is not valid in the other direction, so I'm guessing on the way back I would need to figure out how to buy an RVL German ticket (for 3.50 eur?) to get back. Currently downloading the RVL app, reconsidering queuing up at an SBB counter and seriously considering hiring a Mobility car to get across the border and back for what seems certain to be less money than this rigmarole. They should abolish all their tarif verbunds and replace them with a single one named after Franz Kafka!!

It is also becoming apparent to me why the Germanic lands and not another part of the world produced that great man..

There is a thing called ticket machine. Select ticket, put in some coins, retrieve ticket, but ticket in stamping machine if needed. Done.

If you go often use the multi pass. It is AFAIK valid in both directions. But you can mail them once more.

TNW 2 hour tickets are always only valid for one direction !!! No going back even if within the validity period !! No joke.

Allgemeinen Tarifbestimmungen TNW Tarif 651.0

https://www.tnw.ch/assets/files/cont...t-Anlage_1.pdf

This is a very big difference in contrast to example Zurich ZVV where a single 2h ticket is valid for any ride within the validity period. Forth and back as much as you like. ZVV-Verbundtarifes, Tarif 651.8. Section 1.03 https://www.zvv.ch/zvv/de/abos-und-t...sbereiche.html

The personnel is bound by law to always present the cheapest option.

You are overcomplicating things.

Don't go to the SBB counter because they will charge you almost double the price for the exact same train (line S6).

Go to the German ticket machine (on Platform 1/2 I believe) and buy your ticket(s) there.

Look for 4-time stamp card for additional savings (10-12€, don't recall).

This ticket is valid for the entire RVL (in winter time you can reach all the way to Feldberg ski area for just a few Euros).

Stamp one in one direction, another when you come back - total cost probably 5-6€.

True, I tested again and it does it for some cases. When I tried it for my journey it initially said it could not calculate the price and I had to fill out a form and wait for someone to get back to me.

No. They won't. See Urs Max's comment above.

Right.

I suggest you go to their SBB counter and ask for a ticket to Feldberg (or Zell im Wiesental, where the S6 stops and one needs to switch to the bus).

And share your results here.

From my firsthand experience I can tell you they do not direct you to the RVL machine, where you get it for far less money.

Does it mean I can sue them?

P.S. In your earlier post you yourself state that SBB app tells you that the Lorrach ticket costs 9CHF.

How does that align with what you are contradicting me for?
