Basel feels very unsafe for a woman. Where can I move?

What? A simple non, merci is too much work?

Depends on the hour and timing in general. From time to time they are really aggressive to “meet their monthly targets”

What was the saying? “As pushy as a 20 Euro hooker a few hundred short on the rent!”

“Gosh darnit Mr, Lammar, you use your tongue prettier than a 20 dollar whore.”

Sorry, I’ll get my coat…

Blazing saddles.

To get to my GP’s office I have a choice of walking from the Station on the busy road or take the shortcut through Geneva’s red-light district. If I’m running late I take the shortcut. I have been solicited numerous times to which I just say no thank you. I have never been hassled or felt threatened.

In this country prostitution is not illegal and these women are making a living, paying taxes and making AVS contributions.

Closer to the station a number of people like to hang out. Most expect you to approach them, a few will mention the name of the (illegal) product they are selling. No hassle, no pushing, in particular they do not want to cause a scene.

Enjoy believing you’re being hit because you’re still attractive until you find out hookers hit those they think got money, not the attractive ones . Male clients actually think they’re “chosen”? It’s business.

I thought this was the definition of male attractiveness :joy:

That’s the usual scenery, but sometimes they do literally hook on you, whispering their offer to your ear, etc. but again true, it’s enough to just say no and keep walking leaving them behind in just 2 or 3 steps

The red light zone in Kleinbasel was pretty much ok until the authorities relaxed the quotas on E Europeans, then it was flooded by some very young Hungarian girls who had very dodgy pimps. Before that it was mainly older Cameroonian and Thai women. The dodgy pimps used to sit outside a café bar that looked down on to Webergasse so they could watch their girls. From time to time I’d see the girls from my balcony on the corner of the zone approaching men trying to get their hands inside their jacket pockets, I presume looking for wallets. The girls all seemed to be run by one who looked about 30 and was the girlfriend of one of the pimps (I used to see her going in and out of an apartment building near the park at Claramatteweg). One of my neighbours who lived on the other side of the building told me late at night she saw young girls going into the park with men and what they were doing.

What eventually killed it for us was not being able to sleep for the noise that was going on all during the night, a lot of shouting and screaming. The caretaker of our building lived next door to us, she resorted to sleeping tablets, filmed what was going on and sent it to Basler Zeitung and BZ Basel who had reports in their online editions but it didn’t do any good.

Thing is you get this in any city, years ago my OH was out for a drink with a friend near Brick Lane in London and they were approached by a young woman soliciting. You sometimes saw girls hanging out of the windows of flats above the curry houses down there, I used to work in a charity nearby at Spitalfields.

Kleinbasel was notorious for those those things back when I lived there.
They used a nasty trick to rob you, one girl would feel you up and even give a blowjob and the other girl would take your wallet without you knowing before it was too late.
Luckily Aldi in Lörrach had an offer for men’s wallets, two for 15 €.

I would have been more concerned about condoms.

Did you even hear the soft „wooshing“ sound as that went over your head?
