Bathroom ceiling lights

I’m moving into a new rental apartment (new construction, no previous tenant) and both bathrooms only have some sort of built-in lighting around the mirror, which makes them usable but still kind of gloomy, so I’m looking to install something extra. In my previous apartment there were plenty of built-in spot lights in the bathroom so I didn’t have this issue.

Bathroom ceilings don’t have obvious wires hanging out, unlike other rooms, but each of them has a suspiciously looking round plastic cover, which I guess could cover the socket and the wires - and they are covered, well, because it’s bathroom and water can get around. This is how the cover looks like: https://imgur.com/mR53Vg5

Unfortunately I was not able to pull the covers off to check. The cover appears to be held in place in its central part, I tried pulling, turning around, but it didn’t go off yet. Of course I’m also afraid pulling too hard because it can break and I’m not even sure there are lighting wires underneath.

Googling, it seems the word in German for this thing is to be Abschlussdeckel or Deckenrosette. I found a product that is likely similar to what I have: https://www.agro.ch/de_CH/produkte/e…bschlussdeckel , it appears to mount on some sort of screw, but I wasn’t able to find any instructions on how to remove this thing.

Does anyone know how to remove this? What are the chances there are indeed lighting wires underneath? Is it even common/allowed in Switzerland to let tenants install ceiling lighting in the bathroom themselves?

I don’t want to buy a lamp I won’t be able to install, and I don’t want to hire a handyman to come and help remove this thing in two seconds, and I’d rather avoid asking my new landlord dumb questions as they were not extremely pleasant in communication, so I would really appreciate any help here.

One of them ( the flat one ) is a ceiling box cover plate. You can pry it open by shoving a screwdriver ( or use a plastic knife to mimimize damage ) between the plate and the wall. You may need to apply some real pressure and you may even need to use a hammer to break the plastic plate if it is the screw-on type.

Depending on the size of the hole you could install a recessed light.

The other one is a vent for a heat recovery ventilation system. Don't touch that one!

After pulling on this cover with more confidence it came off, with socket and wires for a light installation underneath. Thank you!
