Bayonet cap light bulbs

Hi all

I recently moved from London to Zurich. I have three lamps which all use bayonet cap light bulbs (push and twist fitting). Does anyone know if it is possible to buy bayonet cap light bulbs somewhere in Zurich?

Many thanks for your help.

In my neck of the woods, we have EW (Electricity Work). Either they have

something like that on stock or know where to order it.

Surely Zürich has such shops... Anybody know of one?

Any COOP, Migros, DIY shops should stock them, depending on wattage of course

Can you post a picture of the fittings?

If you have any trips planned to France you will find them in regular supermarkets, however I have not seen any in Switzerland or Germany.

You wont find them in Switzerland. Easiest thing to do is to go to any Migros DIY, Coop or Jumbo and purchase the screw type fitting to replace the bayonet type fitting. This is what I have done.

Short term solution is buy a load from Ebay and get them sent over. Longer solution is to change the fittings. What do you need, 60W, 100W or 40W. I have some knocking around here, although I am going skiing for a week, so you may have to wait, send me a pm.

Thank you all for your replies.

Coolio, how do you change the fitting - you are referring to the fitting on the light bulb, correct...?

I attach a picture of a bayonet cap light bulb.

We have these for our bedside lamps, you can buy them in the Jumbo, Coop, and Migros.

No I was referring to the fitting on the lamp itself. Its a simple matter of unscrewing the bayonet fitting from tha lamp and replacing it with the screw type. I had to do this as I had purchased quite a few lamps from Selfridges for my house. I had to always get the bayonet type bulbs from London, so I ended up replacing all of the fittings on the lamps . I believe I purchased the screw type fitting from either Migros or Jumbo.

I see that Sutter says you can now get the bayonet type bulbs in Switzerland. Would be a simpler solution

I haven't been able to find the bayonet cap light bulbs in any shop in Zurich (including my local Coop and Migros), until today that is! I found them in a nice little speciality shop called "Hickel", that sells and repair lamps and lighting. In case any other readers of this forum are in the same need as I was, the address of the shop is: Schoffelgasse 8, 8001 Zurich.

This may be of interest to you. Basically, light bulbs in the EU have been banned. I'm not sure if this affects Switzerland or not as I don't know how the bilateral agreements etc. work.

The propsed ban relates to Incandescent Filament light bulbs. These are the ones that have been about for 100 years or so. The plan is that all new bulbs will be low energy, either Compact Fluorescent or LED.

Whilst there will be energy savings from the newer types, the environmental and health matters do not appear to have been properly addressed, as mentioned in the article. Another point is that many of the newer bulbs are not suitable for use with dimmer switches or outdoor lighting.

The ban will only apply to the EEC. I guess that it will eventually affect Switzerland as well.

This shouldn't affect the availability of bulbs with bayonet or screw fittings. They are available in both types and I don't see any reason for this to change.
