2 beer sellers are are creating a bit of confusion with their labels. Calvinus beers puts “Genève” in the label while the beer is brewed by Brauerei Locher in Appenzell. La Meltingpote beers adds “GE” in the label while the beer is brewed by Dr. Gabs in Puidox, Vaud.
Except that in its 26 years of existence, Calvinus has never brewed a single liter of beer under its own name. Le Temps has confirmed that the brewery is not registered as a beer producer with the Federal Office of Customs and Border Security (FOCB). This public registry operates on the basis of self-declarations and lists all brewers in the country who produce and sell their beer, from the very first liter sold. In other words, Calvinus has never taken the necessary steps nor paid a single cent on its production.
The company “has never been registered as a tax-paying brewery,” confirmed the OFDF (French Office for the Development of Breweries), when contacted by Le Temps. The current manager explained that it was “a mistake” and that the matter is being rectified. “I was so focused on other aspects of opening the brewery. It’s not easy to get a business like this up and running.”
Pay attention to those labels at migros and coop, they take the supplier’s words at face value:

I read that the reason for chilled glasses and super-cold beer was to disguise its crappy taste. If it’s good beer you don’t need to freeze punters’ taste buds to get it down…
It’s a seasonal thing. During those 30+°C days, a chilled glass might be a good idea. But, the other 350 days all good. I had a work event last Monday, I was a bit outside with colleagues that smoke, after 5 mins my beer tasted to water + ice haha
TBH, I don’t chill glasses at home. I’m either thirsty or share beers with my wife (pour a 50 cl beer in two glasses), so temperature change is not a worry at all.
Yes, I’d agree with that but when the temps are pushing 35 degrees and your thirst is peaking well, I nice ice-cold brew is going to be delicious, even if it is really crap beer.
I would argue that it depends on what kind of beer.
I like Weizen and I like it cold but not too cold, a Helles is nice when it is icy, but only on a hot day, Märzen cant be drunk cold at all and some other beers are only drinkable when tempered and come to think about it; I havnt seen a beer warmer in a pub for ages.
English style ales and beers dont reqire cold to drink so that is probably where hubbs is coming from, by the way have you tried a hot mulled ale?
