Belt-driven children's bicycle?

I'm looking for something for a 6 or 7 year old... I've seen a few around, just not sure the brands.. Any ideas about the local market?

Ok I have never heard of the expression "belt-driven" so I clicked on the links.

The first link is a Laufrad. That is not something for a 6 year old. That is usually used by a three year old, i.e. to learn the balance.

The other just look like "normal" children bikes.

I would buy one second hand or make sure that it can grow with the child otherwise. The bike must be the rigth size, otherwise you won't be able to use it for a long time.

Look for Velobörse in order to find a second hand bike. Many Kinderkleiderbörse or similar will have those as well

Well, at least you now know what a belt-driven bike is. They honestly should make the majority of bikes like this, no more messing with oily chains, etc. Some would argue, but I think them to be vastly superior. You would need an internal hub for gear changes, however.

A second hand is a good idea.. I will look around also for that.

I never knew they made belt driven kid's bikes. Does kinda make sense - no sharp teeth, less greasy stains.

Up until now I always thought belt driven bikes were just a hipster thing - you know, a 'chain' being too mainstream and all

Ah ok. Now I see. Sorry, didn't have much time earlier.

So it's not a "normal" bike. It is a special bike. Then I don't think you will find a second-hand one. Sorry. But you should still try. But I doubt that you will find one but maybe you will get lucky. Enjoy spring with wichever bike

When I was a kid I had a bike, it was a proper belter.

They are, as are shafties.

That said, I have two shafties, one of which is open and even messier than my chain drive bikes!

You should buy a Brompton with a belt from Kinetics

I didn't even know this is a thing.. thanks for giving me the shaft! (pun intended)

What is the difference really to a chain?

If you get your fingers in it, it's not going to be much nicer than in a chain - it's still going to squash them.

Chains on non-derailleur bikes don't need much oil and never come off because they're quite tight, so not really different there either.
