Bespoke tailoring

I like my suits, also shirts, to fit me nicely and usually go for custom made ones.

Can someone suggest good tailors for suits and shirts in and around Zurich area please. Something like Savile Row standards?

Try:

Hangartner Herrenmode AG

In Gassen 11

8001 Zurich

It's off Paradeplatz, up the little side street past Zeughauskeller Restaurant on the right hand side. Excellent service!

EF member SWINGE (currently in Australia until 1st April) can help you he has an online store www.bawdenbespoke.com.au selling shirts, he will be offering suits as well soon through a new website.

This may not be the most helpful piece of information, but given typical prices for bespoke tailoring in Switzerland you might want to consider a short holiday somewhere horrible such as Dubai, which does have considerable cheaper tailors.

Oh such a long time since I saw the words "Bespoke Tailoring"!

I thought that had died out in the last civil war

I was one of those tailors, long long ago .............. and then my last customer died. So I came to Switzerland and made Barbie clothes. ........

Felix W isn't Saville Row, but it is very good quality (German company) and the prices aren't extorionate http://www.felixw.de/

They do bespoke tailored shirts etc.

Now I know who is responsible for the fashion disasters on the "barbies" up and down Zurisee!!

Now go to the mirror and give yourself a good talking to!!

I looked at the Felix W website as suggested.

Do you know if there is a big difference between their prices in Germany and in Zurich ? Is it Worth the trip to Stuttgart ?

I used to have all my suits custom-made by a Taylor in Montréal for an unbelievable price but it is too far now...

Check the CH and DE websites.

If you want Savile Row quality, could you not just hop on a flight to London City and get measured up/buy one there?

The money you'd save would more than cover the cost of a flight, would it not?

For info, there is this Hong Kong tailor coming to Zürich on a quarterly basis.

He does all the measurement and fitting in Zürich in a hotel or at your premises/office and shirts and suits are made and shipped from HK soon after.

Don't have any experience with him myself but heard many good things about the man.

Thanks for that. I saw the flyer but am still hesitant to get suits made "remotely" I get my custom-made shirts from Maxwell's in HK and never had a problem but am not ready yet to try suits

Hello Richdog. Unless I missed something, there were no prices on either websites. I will take another look.

Best

For Savile Row quality in Hong Kong, there is only one tailor who is genuinely in the same league:

http://www.wwchan.com/

A basic two-piece suit starts at EUR2'300 and works up from there based on materials and finishing, but the quality is as good as something twice the price from London. They make regular European tours, so it's worth checking their itinerary to see when they're next in/near Zurich.

There is a spate of tailors in Zurich, especially around the banking area, which has led to a more competitive price, even against Thai/Hong Kong options:

Nice looking place on Stockerstrasse, friendly staff:

Also Stockerstrasse:

The ever stylish Pelikamo:

A chain, but they have tailors in house. Not sure but might be altered off-the-peg:

A bit further up:

Worth looking at examples and comparing prices if you're serious about spending some money.

I have wondered if companies may be resellers of Thai/Asian products but have a Zurich shop front. Just speculation though.

Just spotted this post is quite old......

I'd like to order some made to measure shirts and perhaps a waistcoat or two. Mass market tailoring is fine. I saw the suitart.com website, but also noticed some posts indicating they have sometimes questionable service.

Can anyone make some recommendations for a place I could walk into, be measured, choose style and fabric from samples, and have it within two weeks.

If there is anyone with a particularly good range of fabrics for waistcoats, that would be helpful too.

Ideally, this would be in Zurich or close by.

Hi Rjellsch,

There are several listed in the post just two up from this, in Zurich.

A friend has had good results from Stock11.

Cheers,

VS

IF you are not to far from German border, then shopping their can be an eye opener. I like Singen. If you find something that needs altering then the smaller shops can generally make alterations.

AP & CO in Zurich is great for suits and shirts but obviously Swiss prices. Suits start at chf 900 and shirtz at chf 140.

Quality is fantastic!
