Best Bar in Zurich..... has to be....

The Old Crow...

Anyone been? Fantastic cocktails especially the rum based „zombie“

Any other favs?

And now that I am moving to Basel - anything equivalent there?

If I was into cocktails, it would be my favourite. What I miss is a London style wine bar, but I'm quite happy to make do with Edi's.

Love the old crow, no one does cocktails better , the staff are great too!

I like Sansi or Gotthard in Zurich, Fat Tonys. Kennedys is good for sport and a catch up, Dante for cocktails/gin

Basel is a pretty good spot, but its much smaller and limited on the bars. Theres a Paddys and Pick Wicks there which is a good hang out and late night boozing. Das Viertel and Werk 8, or any of the bars on kino strasse.

Kennedy's is great but my favourite is Bohemia. Nice atmosphere and they have fab snacks on offer if you just want something small with a drink.

I used to like Old Crow, but a couple of weeks ago, we tried to exchange our small table with the right-hand end of the bar. Our group was getting bigger, and at the bar was one lady waiting for her date. She was more than happy to do it, and there was clearly enough space by the bar, but the staff rather rudely told us to squeeze at the table because we couldn't fit at the bar. We definitely didn't fit at the table, but they were fine with that.

Anyway, it was a busy Friday, and I generally like the policy of keeping numbers reasonable in the bar, but that was just absurd and the attitude more than anything pissed me off...

Never been to the Old Crow. But in Basel, I'm a fan of Kabar and Grenzwert . For microbreweries, BrauBudeBasel (it's tiny) and Volta Bräu .

In Basel - go for Angel's share.

It was voted 1st in top 10 cocktail bars of CH, and the guy there has won the award for 2017.

Super cozy atmosphere too, not packed.

Enjoy.

Yes, that does sound a bit rude to be fair. I normally book a large table at Kennedy's for larger groups. The staff there have always been super friendly and accommodating if more people arrived etc. I think for a Friday night large group, it is better to reserve in advance.

Tales bar. Perfectly crafted drinks. Very nice spirits and old school vibe.

Zurich:

Kronenhalle - but only upstairs in the smoking lounge...

Raygrodski - a more hipster version of Old Crow

Basel:

Angels Share

Ward 8

Grenzwert (you have to go early for a good cocktail, otherwise it gets too busy and not of the same quality)

Roter Baren (also a fantastic restaurant)

Trois Rois hotel bar - surprisingly casual and my friend Adriano is one of the best bartenders in Switzerland!

Klingeli (also a fantastic restaurant)

Wow, no mention of Paddy's yet

Yeah. The OP was looking for "best" bars.

Exactly. Look at some of the other bars suggested in this thread, can you really put Paddy's in the same league?

enough people do - it's busy 6 nights a week

So is McDonalds, but nobody would describe it as the "best" restaurant in Zurich.

Thats a really good point - well noted

I think the Basel equivalent of a Zurich cocktail bar would be the Steinen Grill...

Yes, true as Paddy‘s has a lot of new people in it when they first come to Zurich who quite understandably find better places once they’ve established themselves here...

LOL

@Euro_lover

For good cocktails, check Angel's share and Styx bar.

Nice ambient is also at Cafe Singer.

If you are a gin/whisky fan, check out Barfly.

For a "pop" place, see Balthazar (although I'm not a fan of their service).
