Best DSL line (telephone line) internet provider

My cable net is dead. Internet still works as I had hybrid 5G + cable, but zoom cals could be unreliable with larger teams.

I also have DSL line and figured out it should be enough for reliable calls. Some provider list it as 100MB/32MB, other as 100MB/100MB… whichever is the truth should work well for the purpose, but naturally I’d prefer to get the max the line can support.

Any recommendations?

Do you need it for anything else besides calls?

I use only my cell phone for Teams etc and that alone is sufficient.

In theory it’s sufficient, but in practice there are occasional freezes. I would care that much about it as IC but I’m the host.

I’ll try the cheapest  interxs.ch

We’re currently using Swisscom, who recently upgraded to fibre (to the road, not to the house) an gives (checking) Download Mbps108.84 Upload Mbps117.36. My wife does a lot of Teams meetings from here and never has problems, but crucially also never encountered issues before the recent upgrade when we were getting much lower speeds than this.

It’s also worth noting that the connection is shared via wifi extenders with our four rental apartment, which again never seemed to cause problems.

This is interesting, Swisscom says it can deliver 100Mb/32Mb, but

Swisscom has connected your property to fibre. However, ordering products on fibre is not currently possible for the property in question due to an official ruling (Federal Administrative Court ruling regarding Swisscom’s construction of the network).

What the heck. I have fiber in the building but cannot use it :sob:

Have you tried init7?

If you need only data and nothing else, they’re very good from what I heard.

same thing, but even more expensive than Swisscom

Copper7

Actually I wonder who owns the DSL line, most likely Swisscom

They are slowly rolling out fibre that was recently connected. Our building was hooked up in September (physically), but no new contracts w/ Swisscom or Init7 due to the ruling on Swisscom’s network (thank god for that ruling, they were rolling out shitty NAT’ed networking with shared bandwidth instead of proper fibre to the home).

However, our building got approved for new contracts for June 16 2024. So things are moving forward. I hope your building gets connected soon. When it does, I highly recommend Init7 as a provider. Copper7 is more expensive, but the switch from Copper7->Fiber7 comes with no additional yearly cost (only setup I think) which is nuts, considering they’ll put you on the 25gbit/s plan for the same monthly price as DSL.

Lucky you! That’s a good point, I’m writing to the landlord, maybe they already know something.

And, for what its worth, Init7 just became available for us at the address they originally said was going to be in June… so check that site every day

I was with Init7 for a while and loved it. Very competent operations.
