Best honey to eat

Dear All,

I have little baby who often have coughs, i need pure honey.

Can anyone suggest some good raw honey, with excellent results?

share experience please.

Have a look in your local Landi - can't vouch for all stores, but a couple I know source products from local suppliers.

As an aside, locally produced honey is also good to help reduce the symptoms of hay fever and some other allergies.

How old is your "little baby"? Honey should never be given to infants under 12 months.

Are you sure honey is the right solution? Surely ask a doc?

Hello,

thanks for reply. Baby is 2 years old.

sorry, what is local Landi? Can you please suggest any brand name?

Yes, midfieldgeneral, one of my Muslim friend suggested me honey, she told it is in their holy book Quran that Honey has cure to many diseases. Though not religious, but i believe on holy books.

thanks

That miracle honey is called Manuka honey. Look for UMF 10+ New Zealand honey. There are warnings about giving to babies under 12 months, as mentioned above, so go easy on it and google. The good stuff is hard to find in CH. If you manage to find it will cost about 55CHf for 250ml!

Well (1) everything about Manuka is at best completely unproven. Actually everything about honey in that direction is basically unproven.

And (2) (wikipedia..."product" here being Manuka honey)

To the OP, Landi is a store. In there you will typically find locally produced honey from local small scale suppliers. It won't have a brand name - not everything does you know.

There are no Landi stores in Neuchatel, given that it's basically aimed at farmers and 'country folk' their stores are all out of town.

There is one in Cornaux ( right next to the Cornaux station if you take the train towards Bienne) which only opens in the morning on Saturdays or there is one in Bevaix which is in the opposite direction towards Yverdon.

If you just want honey to soothe your baby's cough then you can get any honey from your local supermarket. The big yellow pot in the COOP costing about 15 chf was recommended to me but since I don't like honey I never tried it so can't say whether it works or not.

Best honey is local honey. Especially if allergies are an issue (hay-fever type not anaphalaxia type). Try and see if there are any local farms selling their own honey.

Maybe try a farmers market. They should have local honey is there are any near you open today.

Have you tried Lagavulin? It's quite runny, but very, very effective for all kinds of ailments.

I second manuka honey, there are some Swiss websites you can buy from.

toppreise are always a good place to look

Why not?

Mueller's a national chain. Hardly a local shop.

I would expect a Landi selling from a local producer to know EXACTLY where their honey vomes from. Far more than a massive chain.

The child in question is two. A two year old can eat anything (and most do).

Should be okay with diligence by asking questions and reading the labels. Landi is not what I personally associate with healthcare products for babies.

Wow - seems they ca source pretty much anything! Lol

Don't forget it was only a pure honey that was asked for - in - and by - the OP.

It's not a prerequisite that it need come from a healthcare store.

It very much depends on the individual store and staff, but, in general, Landi source many perishable foodstuffs from local cottage industry suppliers - and in my local one pure honey comes from within a kilometre of where I live ....... maybe, the bees even collected pollen from my flowers.

It's the same at the Landi here. Landi is my first port of call for lots of things as the staff are very knowledgable and they have an amazing range of products. ( plus the guy in charge at our local one is a bit of alright as eye candy. )

If the OP really wants honey local to where she lives then she should go to the botanical gardens in Neuchatel as they sell the honey they produce there.

As a treatment for a cough in a two year old I would say pretty much any honey would do. Better still a visit to the doctor to rule out an infection would be a better option if the cough has been present for some time.
