Best places to buy a TV (Switzerland or Germany)?

Hello,

What are the best places or sites (secure) to buy a TV (LCD)?

Are the prices better in Switzerland or in Germany?

I live in Basel...

Thanks

Generally, you can get the best price in http://toppreise.ch/ . But, as the Sale season has started, you might get good offers in Media Market, Inter Discount, Saturn, Fust or Migros Electronics (40 - 50 % discount).

You have to keep an eye on the offers though as they don't last for long

An investment such as a TV is one that afterwards isn't normally repeated for a few years. I've just seen what happens when you buy a TV from a discounter that doesn't work when you get it home (a neighbour). I have just bought a TV and DVD from a local dealer, paid more than I needed to have done but it was installed properly and the whole thing demonstrated before the deed was done. And - I only settled the bill after I was satisfied that everything was OK. Should anything go awry my first step is to the telephone. Couldn't be better.

As other have mentioned, I would highly recommend looking it up on http://toppreise.ch . Also, I would keep an eye out for Digitec and Migros, they have some crazy deals at times (last summer they were selling a 42" LED TV for 444 CHF!!).

Usually Swiss prices are better (cheaper) for electronics including TVs.

Hi, we bought our TV at conforama in wallisellen. It's a Thomson 42" LED, we paid 400 CHF for it and it works great.

Depends what you want I guess. For the latest models I found that the online stores are best by far (they have the latest models & they are way cheaper than physical stores). For older models it's quite possible to get a very good deal from a physical store, especially when on sale.

Also, my research has shown it's not worth buying from Germany as they are cheaper here and, although after getting the german VAT back you might end up *a bit* better off, you have the added hassle of dealing with transport and eventual problems in Germany, instead of locally.

As for installation, I don't really get it, is there more than plugging it in? (I know there are professional calibrators here, but if you want a good laugh, ask them the cost )

Hi,

I bought my TV in media markt

Good luck,

We had good experience with www.digitec.ch

Go ROBO (Research Offline, Buy Online). Go to any Mediamarkt or Saturn where you have lots of comparisons and then use your smartphone to comparison shop on the spot. I can also recomment Digitec as the leading Swiss mail order business for electronics. Great service and generally the cheapest with a few exceptions.

I have bought a Samsung UE40ES6710 in Digitec and the prices were much cheaper comparing with other stores.

Thanks to all

if buying online with some of the store on toppreise BE VERY CAREFUL..... read the comments or user feedback, do a google search, do they have a "real" store of just a mailing address etc..

many are a small operation, say they have the items in stock but really dont, you are then left waiting for weeks even months for the items.

BH look at digitec/steg etc.

if you see the TV u like in mediamarkt ask them for a price match especially if there is a digitec in the area whi are normally cheaper - they can only say no.

I buy all my electronic stuff from digitec (not the galaxus or beta part that exists though, they are different)

Ok, ten posts......good. Lets get on with the selling now?

Nope, but I do want access to the free stuff section to give stuff away.

I bought mine at Media Markt - good choices and good prices as far as I sensed.
