Best Poulet Roti trucks in Switzerland?

Good morning,

Just finished watching this delightful piece on a Swiss guy making it big in the US with his “Poulet Roti” (rotisserie chicken) truck in San Francisco:

It got me inspired to try more of these trucks (also known as Güggeli Wagen) in Switzerland. Can you guys share your favorites?

Danke

I've never seen a truck here selling porchetta like that, nor those potatoes.

The porchetta ciabatta sandwiches with rocket look great.

Perhaps North Americans have higher standards and expectations than people here?

Agreed, these look pretty great! I haven't seen any trucks like this around - is this a common Swiss thing?

Newer food trucks in many areas of the US can be amazing. Often seeds for opening a brick and mortar restaurant.

Japan’s were weak. Thailand had very good ones. Indonesia had terrifying ones. I’ve not had many here in the Geneva area, but they were disappointing, so far.

The best I’ve ever had was a small porchetta sandwich shop in Italy. The green sauce was addictive and I dream of it occasionally.

I’m curious about recommendations here - I hope to find something good!

We have one that sells the chicken an potatoes here but I’ve never seen the pork. It looks delicious.

They do have them here.

Most rotisserie chickens in Switzerland are done by Natura Güggeli which has franchised trucks. Whilst OK, they're nothing special. My advice is if you want really good rotisserie chicken then go across the border and into France!!

They're an anomaly here in ( at least the german part ) Switzerland but are quite common in Italy.

Yes the porchetta is not "Swiss" - but I've seen several rotisserie chicken trucks in my time here - usually in random locations where I'm unable to easily pick up a chicken to take home, but now I am really wanting to.

Pre-Covid, I regularly visited Paris where they have food markets that do the chicken with the potatoes - I used to make our hotels laugh when I'd come back to my room with a whole roast dinner. Hoping I can make may way there this year ... probably my favorite meal on earth.

In Umbria, I ate everyday at porchetta stand while staying in Assisi - they would put the meat in a panini with thinly sliced lemon, arugula and a wonderful melted cheese. I dream of it ...

Hah, I frequented his truck. They also have raclette at that farmer's market

Max Poulet is the standard which is very good IMO, I do remember picking one up outside the train station in Berne once and it was heavenly but I don't recall the name.

Nearby in Trelex they have an excellent one too

Our local one has Schweinhaxen which are quite good if they have been cooked long enough so later in the day is better if there is any left!

Panino, panini is plural.

A panino is a sandwich (any kind of sandwich), so they put it in bread thus making it a panino.

There used to be, maybe around 10 years ago when I was going there occasionally for work, a set of trucks outside Globus in Basel that did mouth-watering roast chicken pork, beef and lamb sandwiches. No idea if they are still there or not!

Grazie for the Italian lesson Tom

If you have a sandwich with baked beans, it's "el paniño".

damn that made me hungry!

I will investigate and report back

I never saw trucks outside Globus. Or do you mean the Marktplatz across the road?

They were in the square outside/opposite Globus (that's the big shop I remember seeing in the middle).

In Zurich, they have some wonderful food trucks outside the Globus off Bahnhofstrasse. Now at Globus in Basel, they have actual Globus stands (ice cream and bakery) and a pretzel stand. No more fun food trucks ...
