Best Swiss wine?

My daughter-in-law says the wines from Hallau are the best. I suspect a little bias however as she is from that area.

The greatest thing about swiss wine... are the open cellar days, go try chat, that is fun.

As for best wine, you could have a Field Fri/Day Thread choosing one, but with Italy/France/Spain imports available at good prices and often on sale, you'd really have to be swiss to drink the stuff daily.

But if you're pushing me for an answer... Castello di Morcote is my recent favorite

For white, I think Heida and Dezaley are the best one.

For red, i considered Tessiner Merlot and Walliser Humagne Rouge trinkable .

I'm surprised nobody has yet mentioned the wines coming out of Schaffhausen (referring to the white ones).

My wife is from the area and naturally we quite often drink the local wines with friends and family and so far I had mostly good experiences, and often in the price range of max 30 chuffs a bottle.

(I have a bad short-term memory for names so I don't even try to remember the labels, but the statement above is a rather general one and maybe someone can name-drop a few).

Agree! Had some nice wines from Hertli in Flurlingen (unfortunately apparently no longer active), but there are some nice wines in the SH area.

Simple answer: Go 10-20km more North and a similar or better bottle will be in the range of 8-10 EUR. And that's the upper end, not the cheap stuff.

If i live in Switzerland and earn Swiss salary, I'm happy to support local firms that employ locals - in this case friends and families of the villages of my wife.

I don't have a problem paying 20-30 bucks for "the good stuff" and as a bonus, avoiding the cues at the border - simply not worth it in my opinion. But to each his own, of course.

First of all being crap for you doesn't mean it's crap for everybody!

If you 've tasted them and you think it's crap then I'll be glad to hear why you think so. If you 've tasted them....

If you are able to buy a 300CHF wine doesn't mean everyone is able to do so.

No one is a connoiseur in a world (wine world) that is changing so quick, even Jancis Robinson (if you know her) and other MWs don't consider themselves connoiseurs. So why should I?

If you think price is not a criteria for wine then I suggest you buy a Romanee-Conti and a Clos Vougeot Grand Cru and taste them. Then you can tell us if it worth givin 6500 euros more for the Romanee-Conti.

Thank you.

Coop Swiss White Wine for SFr1.75 per bottle. A hit with the tramps at Albisriederplatz.

This is a decent Swiss wine available at Coop:

also its worth mentioning that price is decent as well

Swiss Pinot Noir? I am sorry but I think I misunderstood. Anyway. Have a nice day.

May I suggest Weingut zum Sternen (Kloster Sion line)? Actually picked by Robert Parker as one of the best Swiss red wines currently available. They're based in Aargau. The Swiss German region has a surprising amount of good wine if you do a bit of research you will find some nice gems.
