Best way to ship some household items from Geneva to UK

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to move out of Geneva. I want to transport some of my belongings from Geneva to the UK, and I’m looking for advice on the most economical shipping options.

The items are generally books and some other household items. Nothing particularly valuable or fragile. The total weight should be less than 30 kgs.

I am looking for cost effective solutions, and delivery speed is not very important for me. Just that the service should be reliable and safe.

I’d appreciate any recommendations on which companies or services to contact, and also maybe the best way to package these things for shipping etc. Any insights from your experience would be incredibly helpful! Thanks in advance.

Luker Brothers. Couldn’t recommend them enough.

On-line quotes as well.

Yep, same. We’ve used them for both parts of our move so far and they’ve been very helpful and provide a good service. They do regular UK/Switzerland runs every 2 weeks.

For that amount of stuff I’d look at parcel services like send my bag or even the post.

I used France Removals for bringing some of my late mother’s stuff over from the UK and they were excellent.

A couple of times we’ve sent small items back to the UK with Luker Bros. Each time it’s gone as an ‘addition’ to someone else’s consignment so it might be worth asking Lukers (or one of the another UK transporter such as Robinsons or Pickfords who also do the Geneva run) if your boxes could be added to a scheduled removals collection. Especially if you’re not in too much of a hurry.
Lukers is based in the Oxford which might affect your choice, depends where you need your stuff delivered/stored.

Well, that tends to be the way Luker do things anyway. Both our consignments have also had other pickups from other places in Switzerland; just depends on what they have to move I guess. Obviously if they move a whole house they might not be able to take anyone else’s stuff, but if there’s room on the lorry then they arrange to collect it.

Fyi @good_samaritan Luker do pick ups in Switzerland on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and deliver them in the UK on Mondays and Tuesdays unless you want them to store your goods until you want them delivered.

Are you flying out of Geneva to UK? Why not take it all in one or two hold bags? At EasyJet, it’s about 60 chuffs the 26kg bag, and you can take up to 3 bags. Not sure you can get it cheaper and more convenient elsewhere
