If the Sihlsee dam breaks the floodwave hitting Zürich HB is expected to be 8m high. Tens of thousands would be killed if it hit during rush hour.
And feel free to look up the consequences a dam break of Grande Dixance would have for the entire Rhone valley including Lausanne, Geneva and Lyon.
The nuclear waste of the NPPs would be much less of a problem (think a factor of 50 or more) if fast breeder reactors were used. The volume would be much smaller, and the half-life of the resulting waste would be measured in decades or a century rather than millions of years.
A straw man laughing is indeed a comical sight.
With all respect to the people of Zürich, the risks associated with the Sihlsee dam do not quite compare to the risk of a meltdown at Beznau, in terms of probability and consequences.
Not sure what an NPP reactor is, but AFAIK all the present commercial reactor types produce large amounts of very very long term waste. I would not like to have a “reprocessing” plant such as Sellafield in my back yard and it would not solve the waste issue anyway.
Ahhh, Nuclear Power Plant. Name in German for the plant is KKB, Kernkraftwerk Beznau. So, not pressurised water, molten salt or other stuff relating to the reactor type.
There is a waste processing and packaging plant here in Switzerland, it has a Schweizerdütsch sounding name: Zwilag. From Zwischelager or Intermediary Storage. Intermeadiary between the power plant and the final storage. It’s in Würenlingen, Aargau.
