Bicycle break down & Tram

I went for a bicycle ride and wouldn't ya know it - I broke a spoke.

I was far enough away from my home that I really didn't want to ride on it, or walk with it (about 10km away).

I made it home safely but I came up with a question....

* Can I take my bike on the tram? or the bus?

I haven't seen any bikes on either transportation device but thought I'd ask.

As any cyclist would know - these type of things happen when you are just a bit too far from home.

Thanks

Yes, but you need to buy a ticket for it in most cases:

Buses- I guess it all depends. What time? (Rush hours?) What route? What sort of bus? How much room in the bus? Which driver?

Additional to the information from the SBB here the one from the ZVV:

and the one from VBZ:

To add more to the story...

* it was mid day - about 1pm

* I was located on the West side of the lake (Zurich)

* I didn't try to get on the bus/tram but I would have been respectful regarding taking up to much space

* I had a 24hr pass with me

OK - if I read this correctly (please let me know if I'm missing something here)

I can take my bicycle on the Tram/Bus if I buy ticket for it.

A bicycle may be taken on a tram or bus provided that there is sufficient space in the vehicle, it is clean, and does not impede other passengers. Bicycles must be loaded, stored and unloaded by the owner. There should be sufficient space for you to get on at the rearmost part of the tramcar. In a bus it is better to use the middle doors of the vehicle.

Tip: A standard 2nd class ticket is required for your bicycle – available at a reduced price if you have a Half-Fare or a GA travelcard.

Its my understanding though that if you have a bag for your bike then it goes free as luggage. Something to keep in mind if you do this regularly.

Good to know - thanks.

This particular time was a surprise to me (broken spoke) so I was ill prepared.
