Big Booms in Basel

What's all that noise? Too deep to be fireworks.

Are the Germans invading?

Border disputes ?

Explosions?

Hmmm...

Must be a 4th December thing.

Big Bangs in Basel

Didn't notice anything on this side of the river. Must be a Kleinbasel thing...

Apparently it's a military parade or a film or something in St Johann Park. Just walked down to the KBasel river after the booms and there were lots of people and camera flashes over there. A friend lives on that side and said that something was going on there this evening.

Disappointed that it wasn't all the bridges being accidentally blown up by the Swiss army. Or Godzilla.

Apparently it's called Barbara-Salutschiessen

Ah. Explains why it was so loud in 2009. I lived next door to St Johan Park.

Cheers, glad that the mystery has been solved.

Anyway, I enjoyed the deafening explosions more than Fasnacht practice, which already seems to have taken hold across the city.

Pretty much how my girlfriend interpreted the noise before hiding under the table.

(Weather is appropriate too.)

Well, only a small 7,5cm canon

and not something serious. It is the sort of stuff they use to welcome new recruits to the troops on the first day

what are they aming at ? zuerich

To all Baslers, we are not under attack and just to put your mind at rest, I'm bumping this thread

It's also not JustRose getting ready for the curry night

The Germans, according to Mr Steinbrück, would invade with the CAVALRY

Fixed that for you

Is it only me who read a "b" instead of the "m" in the thread title??

I'm very disappointed
