Big & tall [clothes] near Zurich?

Does anyone know a reasonable (for Switzerland) big and tall men's shop anywhere near Zurich, or on-line perhaps? I am 6' 2" and also need size 48 shoes, none of the major chains seem to have shirts or shoes to fit me.

I have found that 2XL here is the equivalent of XL in the US, more often than not running short and slim fit.

any suggestions are welcome!

My husband managed to get some clothes to fit in Globus, Jelmoli and Peek & Cloppenburg (sp?). He is bigger than you so hopefully if you try these places you will find something though he does find it a bit hit or miss as to what he gets.

There is a store right near my office on Talackerstrasse.

I can give you the name later when I leave the office, I can't remember.

Very near the intersection Talackerstrasse and Pelikanstrasse. Tram line stop (tram 2 or 9) is Sihl, right next to Paddy O'Reilly's and then head towards the Talacker Bar, keep walking past the parking lot area in front of the Talacker Bar and cross the street (across the tram tracks and there it is)

I have the same problem with size 48s, most shops only stock up to 46 here. I had some luck in Oschner sport after a couple of hours hunting through all the boxes, I found some oversized 46.5s and 47s which fit, and some undersized 48s which didn't.

I have always dreaded buying clothes and shoes, everytime I go back to the UK, I pick up new clothes as I know the shops that sell stuff in my size.

I have the same problem when it comes to shoes....

us "big-footed" guys just have to settle with whatever the stores have.

Instead of asking "do you have these in size 48"...i now ask "what, if any, have you got in size 48"

clothes...at 6'4" it is a little tough finding clothes LONG enough for my monkey arms....

Try WE...the clothes, although cut slimmer, are nice and long and I even get to roll the sleeves up on the odd shirt I have from there...

Hi

My husband is taller and with as big feet. He shops for shoes at Sascha's ( www.saschas.ch ) in Backerstrasse near Stadelhofen and for tall clothes at Dimitrius further up the same street. Unfortunately, the clothes not particularly cheap, but good quality and best of all - they fit.

Good luck!

You could try either of these for shirts (made to measure) :

The first has a shop on Loewenstrasse in Zurich. Bought a couple of shirts from there, and been very happy with them.

The second seems to be an online outfit, that does "sizing events" to get your measurements. Not used them, but looks interesting...

It's called Bovet, has own label stuff as well as well-known brand names. Can't remember seeing shoes though.

Being taller (5'10") and wider (46 on top, 48 on the bottom) than most women here, I followed their measurement guide in the hope of getting a shirt that actually fits. It was a complete disaster, we are not talking a little off, but worse than anything I could buy in a shop. Shipping took forever too. However, they agreed to refund the shirts provided I sent them back. I did, but they never picked them up, so I got them returned.

The clothing to fit issue is not just for men, apart from catalogues and things my NAN wouldn't wear I just can't buy a great deal of clothes that fit here. Which is why I always wear pretty much the same stuff...

Being a tall women sucks for buying clothes. I'm a wee bit taller than average too & no stick insect. No point in even going near half the shops.

Hi, quite right, us girls have the same problem, roll on the summer when I can wear cropped trousers and the length won't matter ! I go back to the UK every couple of months to stock up on jeans and trousers .......the next problem is shoes , I need a size 43 ...Coop on Bahnofstrasse have them but very limited in range .......and I haven't dared go in "Big Shoes" at Bellevue ..has anyone been in there ? can you give me an idea on the range and cost ? I have a feeling they will be at least 300 chfs and over ......

I am a little taller than you and find the stores here to accomodate me. Suits and trousers are fine off the peg as are shirts (but I need about 18"). Shoes I am a relatively normal 45.

Fox Town Mendrisio is worthy of a visit....

And it is very expensive! Try these on line stores:

Good luck,

Unless they have a sale in which case you can find great deals. Problem for me is that I am not big enough or tall enough, yet too tall and big for the regular stuff.

..so every now and then I just fly to the US and go on a clothes shopping spree.. that usually lasts me a while. Since it is rather cold in Switzerland for about 4 - 6 months, you can get away with wearing nice cahmere sweaters (which are expensive but since you aend up wearing them alot are cheaper than getting shirts etc...)

thanks everyone for the suggestions and co-miseration! this is a great forum, I'm a member of a few others where posts go weeks with only one or two responses.

ps = just mail orderd some camera equipment from the US, even with international shipping and the Swiss 7.6% tax it was still much cheaper, so i might go for some clothes too.
