Bike Tire Air

Is it best to buy a bike pump in Basel, or is there a easy way to get air for your bike tires elsewhere?

Thanks!

Just do the big, bad wolf.

You're gonna send him to Hong Kong? Damn the Chinese are making everything nowadays lol

Gotta say, big bad wolf is a funny pic.

If I am not wrong, this is Japan....or may be S.Korean, surely not HK.

BTW, why buy pump in Basel? What's wrong with those from Zurich, Aargau, Luzern, .....?

Ooooo, well spotted!

You are right Japan and home town of Yokohama, tho I think those radials will be too big for his bike under Swiss road law

Save the money, get a decent girl friend, one that blows as well as she sucks.

If you do buy one, don't leave it with your bike in Basel. Some bleeder will nick it.

The pump or the girlfriend?

You know that this sounds a bit strange as Yokohama is the second largest city in Japan.

Indeed but Yokohama is a brand Yokohama rubber company...

I would never cycle without a bicycle pump - they are cheap, light and easy to find - Migros, Jumbo and at the MANY bicyle shops.

If you do get stuck without a pump - there is one in the courtyard of

VELO PLUS

Leimenstrasse 78

CH-4051 Basel

The pump is free and they sell spare innertubes from a vending machine - if you need them on a Sunday or at night when the shop is closed.

I'm not sure about Basel, but in Zurich there are free compressed-air bike tire filling boxes around the city. Very ideal! I know of one by bellevue and one at helvetiaplatz (although the one at bellevue has the rubberhose/attachment broken so essentially useless last time I was there)

They are various ( but not all) service stations in Basel. I use them at ties. But carrying a small pup with you is also a sensible idea. ( as is knowing how to fix a puncture/change a tube.

Every bike deals has one of theses stations and you can use them for free.

Coop Bau & Hobby carry bike tire pumps for around CHF 30. These are the floor stand ones with a pressure gauge and work on both the car style valves and the needle style ones. One that you can carry with you, spare tube and tire tools is great to have but for the daily commuter, the floor stand ones are best (the others will get nicked).

ANd they can be bought for less than half that price from the mall in Weil am Rhine.

Well spotted Sir The red banner above the white car has some Japanese characters, so it cannot be in China or Korea.
