Biking Routes in and around Geneva and France Voisin

Hi,

Does anyone know a good biking route from Ferney Voltaire in France to Gare Cornavin in Geneva which would be comfortable for a novice biker - ideally, a route which doesn't involve driving through heavily trafficked streets and preferably a scenic route through calm side roads, parks or green fields even if this requires more time than a more direct route?

Would appreciate if you could also recommend any good biking/cycling forums (both english or french language forums are ok) for Geneva and France voisine or places/sources where I could find out more about good biking routes in and around Geneva.

Thanks and look forward to hearing from you.

you can try this official online map (if it works....)

Thanks SwissRomande!

I'm a man, there's no *e* at the end of Romand

lol

Apologies about that Swiss Romand. You might be able to tell I'm a foreigner, and haven't got the best French grammaire

This is where his "e" should belong: France voisin e

Your problem is that Ferney Voltaire is on one side of the airport, and you have to either pass under or around it and then cross the motorway and then head into the centre of Geneva. There is no possible way that you will be able to avoid fairly busy roads at some point in your trip to get from one to the other...

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but having said that if you can avoid the rush hours and take the back streets where possible it really shouldn't be too bad. If you are really uncomfortable/unstable on a bike it might be worthwhile doing some rides around Ferney first to gain confidence and improve your bike control skills.

Ha Ha, French grammar is too complicated

Thanks for being candid and good suggestions to practice riding around Ferney. I'm sure there must be some nice rides around Ferney and Gex.

This could interest you, it's the Bikeways map of the Pays de Gex made by the APICY (Pedestrians and Cyclists Association Pays de Gex)

This is really helpful, thanks!

Believe me with all the French commuters, there is no non-heavily trafficked roads into CH from France at rush hours, the commuters have found them all and have exploited them.

That being said, last I knew, albeit it was a long time ago, there was a dedicated bike path from Ferney into Geneva, which is better than just fighting traffic the whole time. It went under the airport bridge and weaved a bit through the airport, then continued through Grand Sacconex. It was doable even in rush hour.

Thanks Runningdeer, I'll look for that.

I was last weekend on the other side of the lake and used these two sites to find different bike routes, very useful!

Thanks for this, they're good sites!
