Hi, My family and I are moving from Canton Zurich to Lausanne and would appreciate some tips on kindergarten and nursery from your experiences please.
Our 3.5 year old son has been in a Swiss German Kita for 1.5 years and we'd like him to not loose his German skills, whilst developing enough French so he can start comfortably at a local French speaking school in Lausanne.
We are native English speakers at home and so ultimately we're keen that our son is trilingual.. ie. English at school is not a priority for us.
Do any Vaud parents have insights that they could share please?
Are there any German - French bilingual nurseries, or kindergartens?
At what age to kids start to seriously learn German in Vaud schools?
Are German speaking playgroups, or other activities a thing?
Many Thanks in advance for your help.
Bernard.
I am not aware of any creches that are bilingual Fr-Ger but there are some bilingual schools (private) that have French-German from age of schooling, i.e. 4. Alternatively there are playgroups, language schools, that have or organise play and language immersion in german for young children. There is the Deutsch Schule in Genf that has summer camps and other related activities as well.
There is the private school which takes children from 36 months up and is supposedly french/German/English.
I think it's called EĢcole Alpha.
Super answers. Many thanks both of you and I will look these up.
Best Wishes, Bernard.
