Hello
I am now 35 weeks pregnant and have started to look at some bio/organic toiletries products for babies to get in Switzerland. I mean, people from all over the world would look for Swiss bio products so there's got to be some pretty good ones we can get here, no??
Any idea?
In the early days, I don't think my son had ANY toiletry products. The midwife recommended that for bath-time you use a few squirts of breast milk instead of bubble bath. He only had a bath once a week anyway, on the advice of the paediatrician, seeing as they don't get dirty apart from round the bum-area. Daily bathing is pretty bad for their delicate skin. For nappy changes I only used cloth wipes and water until he was about 6 weeks old, then I just switched to bog-standard wet-wipes.
For when they are a few months older and need a bit of a scrubbing down in the bath, I think Weleda is pretty organic and baby-friendly.
5 years down the line, he's survived and his skin is perfect apart from the bumps and scrapes that are part and parcel of being a school-boy.
My wife has used this shampoo on all our kids when they were younger:
Lavera baby kinder shampoo -Almond.
It's organic and scored highly in a recent K-Tipp consumer magazine test.
But she just used warm water and cotton wool for the first couple of months.
Co-op sells organic cotton wool things for cleaning babies.
We use the Waleda baby line for everything - bath soap, oil for diaper changes, powder in the neck/arm pit/ leg skin folds and body lotion - this is what the hospital used and I love the smell.
Thanks everyone! I'm going to look up these 2 brands. much appreciated!
Pure organic cosmetics, creams and soaps I personally order from
www.bali-cosmetics.ch
Is the use of baby powder not now discouraged?
It is discouraged! It can be easily inhaled by the baby and cause breathing issues. If you can't resist, though, the corn starch varieties are supposed to be safer than the talc versions (talc is smaller and therefore easier to get into the lungs).
