Hi all,

Does anyone know where to buy a first aid kit for birds in Switzerland?

For example like the one at this link: https://www.scarlettsparrotessential...-first-aid-kit (does not ship to CH).

I have been able to find first aid kits for cats and dogs but not birds. Of course one can buy the various products separately, but even so it is not always so easy to find everything.

The kit looks just like any other first aid kit, except for the picture of the parrot.

Looking at the contents, I don’t see where any of the items are specific to birds. It’s a very basic first aid kit. Styptic powder you should be able to get at any pet store.

Also, consider substituting Nitrile gloves for latex.

I agree, the items are very similar to any of the cats-dogs first aid kits (like the Swisspet one that I have found readily available) and some are exactly the same. There are a few exception, like the locking forceps to remove damaged blood feathers, and perhaps the size of some items, which would be much too big for budgies or cockatiels. There are also a few items in the cats-dogs first aid kit that would not be suitable for birds, so I thought it might be good to find a first aid kit specifically for birds. However I am having trouble finding one in Switzerland.

Scarlett in the UK do sell what I need but don't send to Switzerland. I might just ask a friend there to buy it and send it on. I already have some of the basic items that I bought individually, so at least it is not urgent

Well, I did order it from Scarletts via a friend.

It is a better option for birds than the cats-dogs kit. I contains a few items that are not available in the cats-dogs kit and the enclosed care card specifically details the treatment of ill/injured birds.

....someone might find this useful to know at some point.

I have very few of the items in that kit on hand and some I would never use.

A serious wound I would never treat at home. That calls for a vet visit.

Octenisept is a safe disinfectant for wounds. This you can buy at the pharmacy.

I use a dremel when necessary to trim beak and nails.

I would never pull out a broken feather as that would be painful and unnecessary. You can moisten a tea bag and apply it to stop bleeding.

Latex gloves will not protect you from a bite. Learn how to towel your bird and invest in a good pair of thick gloves usually found in the building department of the hardware store.

The most useful item in an emergency is the name and number of an avian vet and a small cage to transport your bird.
