Birth Certificate - Delay - Ideas?

Hi everyone, hope you are well and safe.

I am in desperate need of advice regarding my baby's birth certificate situation.

My child was born on 16.03.2022. Around January time we submitted all of our documents to the Zurich civil office to be checked, as neither myself nor my husband was born in the EU... Long story short - it's still being processed which is a shock to me as its been 5 months. they mentioned everything is fine, papers look good on our side it's just taking a while to get the verified paperwork to Bern first to be approved and then to Zurich. once the documents get to zurich, they said they need another 3-4 (!!!) weeks to issue her certificate, which means this wont to be settled earliest until end of June.

For her then to get a passport, which is ofc not possible until we have the birth certificate, we need another 13 weeks, which means October time her passport will be ready

My problem is that we have planned our wedding for this year September in Italy. its been 1.5 years we've had this planning and never expected her paperwork to take more than 4 months (which is what they told us standard processing time is).

I honestly dont know what to do as i'd want her to be on our wedding and even if not, i have no one to leave her with in Switzerland. I feel really horrible and at loss of speech to be honest, it looks like we'd have to move the wedding or something, but its huge costs to us as well as to our guests...

finally my question is - has anyone been in the similar situation? please advise because i really dont know what to do. i was even wondering if i should hire a lawyer because due to this delay we are potentially in thousands of loss.... when i call th people in the civil office they dont really care and keep saying to wait... needless to say i still didnt get my maternity pay. please please please help with an advice...!!!

Contact your country’s embassy/consulate here in Switzerland and see if they do an emergency travel document if you can’t get the passport in time.

I agree with this, but in my case (did not give birth in Switzerland, but in a EU country where we did not have citizenship), the delay in getting the passport was not due to passport processing, but to citizenship processing.

Specifically: the foreign birth certificate, once obtained - about three weeks after birth - had to be translated, submitted to the embassy, which then needed to do some other paperwork to register the baby in the home country civil registry and obtain the citizenship document (like Heimatschein here, not every country has it), so that with this document and the home country birth certificate the baby finally got her passport. It took 8 months from the time we got the original birth certificate. We did not try to push it, as we did not need it earlier, but it can be a concern. I feel for you, merimgerian, especially with the trip, the wedding coming up. It should be something that you can enjoy as a family, not a cause of stress.

If you have the civil registry office all needed documents in good time, I would expect you to get your birth certificate soon. I don't know if there is more to do, but going there or calling them every week might accomplish something.

Have you received the birth certificate? If yes could you please let me know how many days it took? I submitted my documents on 29 May 2022 and still I haven’t received.
