BIS Salary

Hi, everyone–I’m just wondering if anyone knows the salary range for admin roles in BIS and the recruitment duration. Appreciate your thoughts,

What admin role, how much experience is required for the role? This is a bit too generic.

I knew someone who worked there, but that was a few years ago and wasn’t in an admin role.

I can’t remember is BIS considered an international organisation (like the UN) where employees are not taxed on their salary? If so, you have to adjust for this, but it has bigger impact for high salary earners.

I did wonder if BIS is maybe an international school or the „bank of central banks“ entity in Basel.

I would indeed be interested what status the employees have.

Hi, @rainer_d . It’s Bank for Intentional Settements

Thanks, @Phil_MCR . Indeed, it’s an international org like UN and salaries are tax-free.

@OakbrookIL it requires several years of experience and it’s for administrative officer role. Appreciate your two cents

I knew some people who worked there. Salaries were Basel equivalent. But you don’t pay any tax because you don’t actually work in Switzerland, or any other country. But.. if you’re not a Swiss citizen there are complications for your residency status.. it’s like living in Switzerland but working remotely for a non-Swiss company… if your permit was originally tied to you being given a job in Switzerland that no longer applies.

I believe any Swiss employee would not receive the tax/AVS breaks.

But beware! You won’t pay any AVS either, which you might think is a good thing. BUT you would not be entitled to unemployment or 1st Pillar pension. You may not be entitled to take your permit to a Swiss employer, should you leave, at least if you haven’t obtained a C permit.

The tax-exemption mostly benefits the employer, not the employee.

I worked under a similar situation in Geneva and in hindsight I wish I didn’t have the exemptions.

Thank you.

That would be a NO, You may by exempt from Swiss income taxes, but it does not mean you won’t end up paying taxes depending on your nationality. domicile, residency etc… I know some that did well out of this and I know a few who resigned after they got tax advice on their status.

That is true. Only the BIS salary would be exempt from Federal, Cantonal and Communal taxes. But, on the other hand, neither GE nor VD asked me about other income. It was only after I got married did they express any interest in me. Then VD added my tax free income to her salary to determine the tax rate to apply to her income.

Hi,

How are the recruitment steps and timeline?

When do they shortlist the candidates after the job advertisement is closed?
