Black out curtains, where???

Anyone know of a place to get black out curtains, either in switzerland, german or online....reallly beed them as i am losing my mind

Thanks

Have you tried IKEA? I don't know if they sell blackout curtains but am fairly certain they would have shades.

If you’re talking about the old fashioned thick, rubber/whatever backed type I haven’t seen them in years. I’ve got one pair in our bedroom which I’ve had since the 90s, but any other curtains I’ve found recently with so-called blackout backing on them just aren’t. Frankly, they should be done under the trade descriptions act because they’re useless for keeping light out. I’ve even looked in the UK on our visits there and can’t find any “proper” blackout ones.

IKEA is the rather obvious option.

Micasa has blackout "rollo" style blinds, or the concertina style "plissee" window coverings.

Manor has them.

I often buy simple things for sewing - like linings and curtain header tape etc- from Amazon. It is generally much much cheaper

Black out blinds in ikea

Mondial Tissus in France sell blackout material by the metre in various colours, and it works really well..... made curtains for my youngest when he was working evenings in a bar so needed to sleep during the day.

The nearest one to you would be Mulhouse I think? Not sure they do a made-to-measure service, but you could ring and ask.

Otherwise Manor as Belgiunmum suggested.

I don't recall ever seeing blackout curtains sold here, and I've done a lot of curtain shopping here.

From your avatar, I assume you're American (like me). The site overstock.com sells them, and I've found that their international shipping is both fast and reasonably priced.

Here is a link to their page for blackout curtains:

I love this website because it sells so many different things.

You could also try JCPenney.com, which I think also sells them (and offers int'l shipping).

I bought mine from Manor about 2 yrs ago. They were pre-made and came in a couple of different lengths, widths and colours.

IKEA and manor have always had them.

But how good are they at actually doing the job?

I can’t say I’ve ever seen any curtains in IKEA that I’d call blackout curtains. Most of their stuff is pretty flimsy.

Manor sells them ready made with the funny spring loaded plastic hook things to go into the Swiss runners.

Ikea does the roller blinds in standard sizes as well

The manor ones are proper blackout curtains ( obscura or something they're called with that weird rubber type backing) but they are not cheap. We didn't buy any as we moved house and we now have working shutters which block out the light if we need it.

I've never bought curtains from IKEA as I don't really like them and I generally just buy the fabric and make my own.

If you’re talking of this sort of thing it says it only filters light and helps reduce reflection on PC screens, etc.

That’s not a blackout curtain to my mind. A blackout curtain completely blocks light.

They have a completely blackout curtain, I saw it when looking at curtains the other week. It has a thick, rubberised lining, and you cannot see a shred of light when holding it over your eye and looking up to the light.

They also have several models of what they call "Block out" curtain, which also blocks out I would say 90% of the bright light that I stared at.

Yes, that sounds like the type I’ve got.

The IKEA roller blinds are ok, but tend to curl up at the edges after time

The Manor ones are "you pay for what you get" I have had one pair for 4 years and another 2 pairs for three. The ready mades were around 70fr I had the first pair made up for about 150fr. They are good quality, last and are 100% blackout, at least through the material.

Thanks everyone

Finally managed to get some from some one here inswitzerland who was selling a pair....but it's good to know where i can get more if needed . You have all been a good help

I appreciate it
