I recently returned from my trip to Switzerland. I was asked to provide a review of the accommodation that I stayed at in Lucerne through the booking agency.
I gave what I considered to be honest feedback with a few negative comments about the place but praise for the staff, especially as they offered me a small discount on the double room price as they didn't have a single room available, and offered to move me to a single room for more discount when one was free.
I was surprised to receive back this email from the accommodation
I wasn't planning to go back as it was more remote from the centre than I first thought. This has convinced me I was right
I assume your review is visible on some internet forum? If so can you edit or do an addendum to it? I would add this response to your original comment and let the facts speak for themselves.
Nobody is perfect - neither people nor accommodations.
I check out tripadvisor etc. before booking. If there are many good, a few sparkling and just a few bad (well, it depends how bad) reviews, I don't see why I shouldn't book an accommodation. But if there are as many good as there are bad reviews or there are repeated mentions of highly unacceptable issues with an accommodation, I won't book.
Why are they shocked by the rating? Is there something specific you complained about which they pride themselves in doing very well?
There isn't an option to edit the review. Looking on some of the other review sites it doesn't always come out very well with several similar comments to some of mine
DP: It's hard to make an accurate judgement without seeing your review.
Reviews can make or break a hotel and Swiss hotels are doing, in general, miserably. Tourism is down and the weather has been dismal. It's a difficult industry to survive in and the competition is fierce.
To be fair, they did try to accommodate you with a discount and your "honest" critic could be seen as a stab in the back.
To be fair, a lot of Swiss hotels I've stayed in have been dismal.
You say the competition is fierce but generally when that is the case, you'd think a hotel would do what they could to make themselves more attractive to the guests.
Unless you go really upmarket, it's like Eastern bloc circa. 1960s.
I'd quite like some of them to close down. Then perhaps someone could take them over who knew what they were doing.
Liked: Helpful and friendly staff. Offered price reduction as I was a single person in a double room as it was the only one available. Offered to move me to a single room after a few days for further reduction
Disliked: Locker not useable in room. Window on ground floor left open by staff every day. Other guests not respecting quiet hours - Showers used as late as 1:30am. Showers left in bad state. Too far from town and bus stop.
