I got a reasonably new BMW, maybe 4 years old. It runs well although unfortunately one of the front shocks blow out this past weekend I had to get it repaired.
Anyway I got it back and noticed the headlights are pointed at the road, making it more difficult to drive. I also noticed that of 4 head lamps only two are working.
So I took to BMW and asked them what happened. They told me that the inner two lights don't work, just the LED ring around the edge?
It is normal for the Swiss model they said????
Is this true? Does a BMW X1 have 4 headlamps or just two? with two lamps non functional in effect? or am I being fleeced...
Any BMW X1 drivers out there can confirm? PM me and maybe I can sent you a photo of what I am talking about if your not sure.
This is a super useful post... I will have another look this afternoon, remember the garage just changed the shocks on the front, so maybe they didn't plug something in. The lights are Xenon. Incidentally I found a video describing a screw you can change to alter the angle of lights too. Seems a little primitive for a car build in 2018 I think, but it changes the height of the beams, which maybe the issue I am seeing too.
1. You can set the height yourself, there are two screws on the headlights to adjust. The outer screw, towards the outside adjusts horizontally, the inner adjusts the beam vertically. Plesse note that this is only for the basic setting as Xenon headlights are required to automatically adjust if the car had more load inside. Meaning with 200kg in the back your car will tilt up and start blinding oncoming traffic if it‘s not adjusted automatically.
2. The inner lights are „Standlicht“ and therefore barely used. The normal light & highbeams are both from the outer lamps, a mirror just switches positions to enable the highbeams.
3. If your shocks got changed, your car is now higher than before, so the lamps should have been adjusted.
4. Turning lights are the fog lights. The adaptive headlights serve as cornering lights and adjust based on driving wheel position.
