but it is very expensive as all book stores are

so i second the choice of the book brocki , it is great

Thank you all guys!

I tried The BückerBrocky so far and im excited.Not a huge collection but a wide range and so cheap i couldnt believe(like 1.50chf for a book).

Plus, even if im not a german reader yet, i could see that there is such a big variety of books in german for all ages and tastes.

Thanks for this post. I am on my way out of Switzerland and had a load of english books to donate. The guy that works there is lovely and took everything. I wish I had known about this place earlier - it is right around the corner, has a good selection and beats paying absurd prices at the Orell Füssli! I would suggest getting in touch with them if you are looking to donate your books.

I have a friend who is leaving as well and I know she wants to get rid of her books. Does http://pileofbooks.ch/ accept donations only?Do you know whether they also buy English books at a nominal sum?

try your local library - ours is great and also has english DVDs - for free -

If you are located in Zurich you can also go to the public library. In the city of Zurich it's called Pestalozzi Bibliothek and they have a library in every part of the city (Kreis). The biggest one is the one in the old town (Niederdorf) and they have a huge collection of English books, fiction and non-fiction but mostly fiction and DVDs. You pay an annual fee and then you can get up to 25 books or DVDs at the same time. They also have languages books, travel books etc. It's huge and by far the easiest / cheapest option if you like to read

just went to this place yday and have to say a wide selection of english books and very helpful staff...

paperbacks - 1.50CHF

hardback - 3.50CHF

tram 6 or tram 13 (6 stops from Zurich HB) going towards the lake...

highly recommended and conveniently located..!
