Borrow a dog for a walk :)

Hoi, if you are an animal lover just wanted to share info that there is an option to "borrow" a dog for a sunny day walk. Make sure U are there before 6 pm.

http://www.zuerchertierschutz.ch/

Wow this is really cool! I wish more cities in the world would implement something similar. Thanks for sharing!

So: Which breeds are the best chick-magnet? Better yet: Which breed attracts which type of female?

The smaller the dog, the bigger the princess factor of the woman attracted by them.

Ok, get me a Great Dane then.

Is this title like a euphemism for something weird and perverted that I'm not yet aware of....? And do I really want to know?

No, I think you can simply volunteer to help the animal shelter to entertain the poor pets until they find a good home for them...

A single male walking around a park will often be avoided. If you take a dog for a walk, many women will stop to chat. Probably best to avoid any aggresive looking dog.

Very interesting idea, but I can't see the page with the info you talk about on it? I just get the home page and having gone through the English and German sites can't see anything about dog walking.

Sorry if I am missing something very obvious.

I'd hate to think that anyone was posting something simply to increase their post-count.

But I'm tickled that Zürich Animal Protection states one of its aims is to "provide help for ... rhinoceroses in endangered habitats" . Presumably it's been effective in that regard, as I haven't come across any rhinos in downtown Zürich that looked in need of help.

Seems a bit harsh. It's genuine information. About Switzerland. Relevant to EF users. In an appropriate forum.

What exactly do you expect from a post?

Cool. Borrow a rhino for a walk. Would that attract the chicks?

I bet the puppy labrador is booked out for the whole summer.

Mine attract anything up to 20 that is skimpily dressed (including bathing suit wearers during the summer) and gays... Lulu looks like the Nintendo Dog and I will gladly lend her out.

On the face of it, yes, my post does seem a bit harsh. But what you can't see are the 11 posts made by Raya over a 37-minute period yesterday, that were deleted by three different moderators (of whom I was not one) for irrelevance and blatantly attempting to increase post-count in order to advertise in the marketplace -- a fact later confirmed by the member.

The information in the OP of this thread does not appear to be genuine. As noted by Stifoan, there is no suggestion on the linked website that dogs are available "on loan" and in fact, placing such trust in anonymous members of the public seems unlikely in a country where dog-owners are legally required to undertake a course on caring for dogs before they may acquire one. If anyone can confirm otherwise, I'd be happy to stand corrected. (The Tierschutz is closed as I type this.)

Sure. By the dozen. They'd be all over the rhino, though, not you.

We know...

Gosh, color me .

I thanked without clicking the link , as I assumed the poster was referring to 'Gassi Gehen', where one volunteers to walk shelter dogs on a regular basis, an activity very much needed and appreciated by the staff and most importantly needed and appreciated by the dogs in their care. A very rewarding voluntary engagement, one I would encourage anyone with a experience, knowledge, the ability to make a firm commitment, and a love of dogs to look into.

To volunteer to do this, simply contact your local Tierheim and ask if help is needed.

Are the head phones also up for lend?

Fair enough. I withdraw my "Harsh" comment (though I'll leave it there, 'cos otherwise you'll look a bit mad replying to it ).

Sorry mate.

As it turns out, I had a look around on the website as I'd heard of someone else on this forum voluntarily walking dogs from shelters before, but a little further away.

I found the contact email address of the animal shelter and sent them a message in English and German. The manager rang me yesterday and I'm going to see them this week to talk about helping with the dog walking.

So whatever the intentions of the OP, this is genuinely something you can get involved in. You have to speak some German though (as the nurses will give you instructions in German) and you also need to have personal insurance ( I guess in case something happens to you or the dog while you're out on your walk..or someone else's dog).

I'll tell you more after I visit them later this week.

I'm not sure if the insurance I have would cover this and my German is really bad. But I guess it could be practice.

I would like to do something like this. Maybe I can find something like this in the French parts of Switzerland.

I miss my rotties back home.
