When I used to live in France the water was so hard, that when boiled it would leave a white flakey-ness around the top of the pan, so we used Evian for our coffee and espressos.
The water from the tap here is remarkably good. But today I used Arkina Non Gazeuse to make my Chicoree(Yes I love New Orleans), and it is wonderful. No bitter end after taste. It's strange because, I didn't even realize it had a bitter finish until I had it with out one.
Anyone try different kinds of bottled water on coffee or Tea? Curious what the results could be.
I one time boiled Badoit petoulant, but that was like letting Champagne go flat and drinking it.
Hi, buying bottled water will cost you a lot over the time.
I suggest you buy something like this:

I know, but I love it. I actually own something like that. But I am assuming that there is a different trace mineral content that is making this water so exceptional.
And a nice beignet to go with it?
No. But I am definitely going to try it now.
At work people use Christalp in the nespresso machine. I don't drink the stuff myself but people here seem to disagree with feeding it tap water too.
I just use a filtered pitcher and otherwise use tap water... a huge part of my reasoning for this would be the need otherwise to lug bottles of water up 5 flights of stairs which I ain't about to do.
AntH - I've used straight tap water a time or two and came to the realization that you really need to use water that has been filtered in some way, the water here is simply too hard.
I used to use bottled water in the U.K. in the espresso machine as the chlorine added to the tap water was very noticable, and unpleasant, in the coffee.
I use tap water here.
It depends on where you live. City of Zurich gets it water from Lake Zuirch, so it is not "hard". If the water comes from a spring or a well, it is generally hard, so then some form of counter-measure is needed.
Some mineral waters have actually higher concentrations of lime and other minerals than tap water, so be careful.
Not sure if its in Switzerland but try Fiji or Voss.
Well Voss seems a little pricey for coffee, except if it makes coffee into wine. Fiji. I drank that in the states, but in the end, it's really too much money for what it was, and the impact it makes.
Interesting,
1 billion people drink dirty water every day get sick and die, and in Switzerland it's Evian in the Espresso maker
So would I be showing my solidarity with Mozambique by getting my next cup of Joe from the gutter trap?
...no, then you'd be showing solidarity with Starbucks
