Hello all,
My 3 month old baby has moved on to formula, and i was just wondering what type of water should i use to mix his formula with, bottled water or tap water?
If bottled water what type do u recommend as i have researched many types of bottled water may contain minerals that may be harmful to babies under 6 months.
Please help
Confused mom
what? where are you getting your information from?
random internet sites?
google headache and see the possible causes then think about it a bit
I am no expert - but I've read before that most bottled waters have too many minerals. I'd say used tap water but up to 6 months, boil and cool first.
thank you rob1 for the useful response.
You should use cooled boiled tap water, there is no need to use bottled water at all.
Hope that helps
Whatever minerals that are found in most bottled water, could also potentially be found in tap water.
You should be fine either way, but tap water has the added risk of whatever might be lurking in your piping system---if one is to be a bit paranoid.
just realism, you can groan me later
That was harsh Rob.
In Switzerland, I used to boiled the tap water and put it in a covered glass jar on the counter. I didn't even bother to warm it up as I wanted to son to get used to room temperature milk.
In Spain, we used bottle water for what seem obvious reasons. Water in Switzerland is very very good so don't worry.
Boiled and cooled tap water is best for making formula.
Many bottled waters do have high mineral level and if you look at the bottles some of them have a babies bottle on the side and (in French) suitable for babies bottles. If bottled water doesn't have this symbol I personally wouldn't use it.
Just remember... bottled water is just someone else's tap water...
I always used reconstituted dehydrated water granules, as the safest option to mix with baby milk formula.
Hello...unfortunately I could not breastfeed my first daughter (now 4)so I used formula...I used cooled boiled tap water and it worked fine. In various situations in summer time I used bottled water and it worked good as well.
Good luck and lots of health to your angel.
We've just bought an 8.5 litre Brita water filter and stuck it in the fridge, saves boiling the water all the time - it can also be left on a worktop, so would be usable immediately at room temperature if you don't have a bottle warmer or don't want to wait for it to reach room temp. It was a recommended purchase on the web of the bottle company
tap water here in switzerland is very clean, i think thereßs no need to boil things anymore, anyway, exposure to some bacterieas, if any in the tap water, is good for baby ́s immune system
we used to run the water through a Brita before boiling, then pour it into a tupperware container that we left on the counter so we didn't have to heat up the bottle. Never had any issues with the formula not mixing so I know some people believe you have to mix it while it is hot, but not the case.
The main reason we would Brita it before boiling was to save our kettle from having to be decalcified every week Really don't think it did much to help the actual state of the water as the water here, like has been stated, is not an issue.
When you travel, bottled water is fine too especially if you don't have control over the boiling process. For being out and about, we bought one of the travel dispenser units that you can get from Coop or Migros (or lots of other places too) that let's you scoop out 4 portions of formula and carry with you - then we would just put the right amount of water in the bottle and add the formula when it was time to give it.
Boiled and cooled tap water is fine in Switzerland. Actually I think we stopped boiling it after about nine months or so. Because it doesn't seem to make sense when he's getting a shed load of bacteria from his solid food, from licking the floor and so on.
Except for bottled water out of plastic bottles, the chemicals in the plastic leech out into the water. Also the chemicals used in washing Pfand bottles can be dangerous, but you really have to be paranoid to be bothered. European tap water is the most controlled substance on the planet and is 10.000 times cheaper than bottled.
I would definitely be boiling the water before it was being given to a 3 month old baby.
run water through de-ionisers and activated charcoal then boil and allow to cool down.
