Bought an acer laptop 6 months - battery is dead, warranty is useless

my advice - dont buy acer

apologies, thats 6 months AGO

Should be able to at least get a free repair, even here in Switzerland as most goods of this type have at least 12 months warrenty by law "not the one in the packet". Sure someone else will be along to quote chapter and verse.

Where did you buy it from?

A bloke in a pub in Athlone.

... at least that's what I heard.

Right and still in the original box ,it fell of a truck /Lorry .sorry no warranty Questing: Did I spelled , "lorry" proper

so do tell what you've done thusfar, who you contacted, etc

they should replace the battery within a year. Dell did for me.

sorry to hear that.

I've got an Acer laptop and I'm very happy with it

That's a yes and a no. Most laptop manufacturers (in fact any manufacturers that include rechargeable batteries with a device) consider batteries to be a consumable item. On average once a lithium ion battery pack has gone through around 300 full charge and discharge cycles then it's considered to be consumed, and no longer under guarantee, even if it is only 6 months old.

Admittedly you've got to really be whacking the laptop to do so many charge and discharge cycles in one year, but I have seen it done regularly.

I also know of one major computer manufacturer that sells extended warranties that cover everything except the battery - the battery still only has a years guarantee, and only so long as it fits within the above criteria.

I have managed to get 54% wear in a year on a laptop battery....that's a lot of charge cycles

Battery maintenance - your battery should not charge when 100% and on the laptop. Heat cycles are what kills the battery and charging causes heat.

Dell never asked me about cycles on the battery. I think I actually let it run out and then sit for some time (it was a Dell Mini9 so I did not use it all the time).

A good tool to see how your battery is doing is BatteryBar - Osiris does a free version and it's quite good.

I've never tried cycling on my battery...

I've had to replace both the power supply and battery on my Acer laptop at least once. And when the power socket broke with 3 months of purchase, that wasn't covered by the warranty...

Still - they've been more reliable and robust than the Toshibas I used to use. And better value for money.

Haha!

Acer sucks badly, and their support is the worst, although Dell seems to be joining them in their mediocrity lately...

Well that's what it takes to buy throwable cheap acer or dell laptops... And you often have to fight in court with them to get your warranty respected...

Although Batteries are always "dead" after 6months up to 1 year and a half... it's like this with that technology, nothing to do with Acer or Dell or whatever...

...and Sony, too

...and Toshiba, too

...and...., too

This has been covered in more than one thread. But what should we then buy...?

Oh dear... you're really going to regret asking that question ...

How very dare you even intimate that one should purchase the devil's tool.

I've got a couple of them already 😏 😏

Then immediately report to your local Microsoft office to be beaten with lavender scented boot laces.

Most certainly I will. However I doubt it'll have much effect due to the jobs reality distortion field protecting me
