I have no experience in neither boxing and nor kickboxing, but I am really willing to to get into it, is there any related club in Zurich? What are the prices for such trainings?
Boxing or kickboxing? You know: there's quite a difference between the two...
Along the lines of kickboxing, you may also want to try googling (resp. consult the telephone directory) for Muay Thai or Thai boxing: I remember that there were a few clubs in Zurich.
Also, if you're mainly interested in the "fitness" aspect (and hopefully technique, but probably no sparring), then the sports association at ETH offers courses; since you're starting your PhD there, you probably won't have to pay extra.
I train kickboxing at fairplay gym on wehntalerstrasse 441 ( www.fit4fight.ch ) and can highly recommend it. You have something like 13 training sessions per week to choose from.
You should however know that it is currently closed for the yearly 2 week 'summer vacation' as the owner (Ivo) is training in Thailand with the national team.
I have previously also been training at 'Asia sport center' close to the uni spital in kreis 6 , ( http://www.asiasportcenter.ch/ ) , and it's also one of Zurichs better Kickboxing gyms (again mainly WAKO/WKA - LC/SC and some FC).
There are several good Muay Thai gyms in Zurich, but they tend to have a bit 'different' crowd compared to the KB gyms. I would recommend some previous fighting experience before stepping into the ring
I was with Ivo in thailand and he's really a great trainer. So, I highly recommend fairplay (fit4fight). I train kickboxing in bern at the Nippon center. I just love it.
Well, I trained in a very good kickboxing club in Zürich-PRAVDA(they are also combining muay thai with the KB, something like full contact), but since I moved to Basel I'm searching for another one here. My best recommendations for the club PRAVDA. You don't need to speak much and the exercises are hard enough that after training you feel like a butterfly. So if anybody is interested in, here's the link:
After reading this thread, I can highly recommend the Asia Sport Centre. The nearest tram stop is Winkelriedstrasse. They offer Light & Semi Contact Kickboxing training for all levels. There are opportunities to train to spar competitively or if you rather focus on fitness & skills training that is also an option. Many of the trainers are current Swiss champions and have had good success outside CH too. With limited German/Swiss German I had no issues in the classes with the instructors more than willing to explain in English too.
Above all it has a very friendly, w elcoming atmosphere and is a very enjoyable place to train for both young and old of all levels!!
there seems to be plenty of dojos in the city (Zurich). I'm looking for the same thing Kickboxing/karate training on the silver coast with day-time training. I got nothing from google search.. ALL of few dojos in Thalwil, Horgen, and Adliswil are only training in the evenings. I have a baby evening hours would be busiest for me as it's dinner and bedtime. Anyone know of any dojo that trains during the day on silver coast?
