BoxSpring vs Lattenrost

hi all,

im currently in the "searching for a bed" mode.

im in no rush as i have one already, but its the swiss one with lattenrost.

now ive been sleeping on a boxspring my entire life, and being on the big guy side, i find the hard mattresses are the best for nighttime activities.

that being said, i am struggling to find a decent boxspring bed set.

ive checked ikea, mobel fister and later this week im gonna check indigo, lipo and one other place.

what are your thoughts/recommendations on a good boxspring bed set thats not in the 10s of 1000s of franks?

or maybe in the words of steve jobs, im just using my lattenrost wrong

If you are searching for the optimal comfortable bed, read this account before making any final decision: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Princess_and_the_Pea

cute...but no, im just looking for a decent box spring one

Do your search for "Boxspringbett site:ch" (to get a CH supplier).

Here is one example. You can search further.

Also looking, are these motorized? Are motorized really worth the money or just a feature no one uses?

I saw quite a few box spring beds in Conforama when we were looking a few weeks ago. I opted for lattenrost and all my previous aches and pains have gone.

Any model specifically? Link?

Manners? Google?

What kind of mattress are you using on top of the lattenrost?

I have an innerspring mattress with a latex topper on top of a lattenrost and I'm very happy with it. Might be a lower cost alternative if you already have the lattenrost.

yeah i wanna move away from the laterost solution completely and donate it away or something. after 4 months on it, i really need to go back to the old "it works" boxspring system

They sell Sealy box spring beds and mattresses in Germany at Moebel Dick. The prices looked quite reasonable.

We were considering Sterns and Foster boxspring and mattress which are sold there until we read the reviews on line. Seems like a product to avoid.

I also find in Germany that the weight tolerances are published whereas in Switzerland one very often needs to ask.

If you stick with the lattenrost and mattress system, one important element other than the lattenrost and mattress is the bed frame itself and what supports is has for the lattenrost. I have heard that a pocket coil mattress (this is the type which usually sits on a box spring) is more comfortable than a foam mattress. Not all lattenrost are compatible with pocket coil mattresses. This might be an option for you.

The motorized feature is good for people with asthma, for e.g. Quickly raise the head without much effort.

We looked at the Conforama box springs recently but didn't buy one yet as we couldn't decide which was best. However we found them to have a larger selection of box spring beds compared to other stores.

Our lattenrost bed is rather noisy so we've been looking for alternatives. I miss my sleep number bed from the U.S.

Conforama has a sale on at the moment for boxspring beds from Robusta (Swiss company). 40% off

Here is the link to the FR version of the flyer. You have to click a few times on the right arrow to get to the correct page (it is on the right).

Reading some online reviews, boxsprings seem to be on their way out (or just on their way in in CH given the number of adverts I see), being replaced by platform/foundation beds. Interested to hear pros and cons of the different types of beds on the market.

Reviving this thread. OP did you ever find your perfect bed?

More than 18 months on we're still trying to decide whether we should change to a box spring bed or just replace the frame and keep our current lattenrost and mattress.

Any additional thoughts on why one is better than the other? Any brands to recommend or avoid?

Obviously keeping our current setup but getting a new frame is the cheapest solution. It's also much lighter weight to haul around if/when we move and involves less disposal of old items.

However even with a new frame it might still be the lattenrost that are making quite a bit of noise. Is there any maintenance we can do on the lattenrost to make them quieter? Last time I looked, it certainly wasn't obvious.

What do folks think is a reasonable price range for a quality box spring bed set?

Thanks!

yeah i found my perfect matress in wolke7 in germany (boxspring beluga brand) and the bed itself i had made at creativa switzerland.

couldnt be happier with the result!

We bought the lattenroste solution with memory matresses with a Oak bed frame over 4 years ago.

I would never buy the latenroste solution again and would say that Box spring is the best ( > 10,000 springs ).

Best option is import from Denham Beds ( Emperor size beds ) or buy a Hastens from UK.

What sort of noise? When is it making this noise? Is it so loud when you sit down that neighbours can hear for example?!

Yes. The closest I can describe is like the old, creaking stairs in granny's house. I don't know if the neighbors can hear, but we disturb each other just rolling over or getting up in the middle of the night. And it could be the lattenrost or the old frame or both. Not sure.

After spending an entire day at furniture stores looking at more beds than one ever should, we have "compromised" and purchased a reasonably-priced boxspring set which will be delivered in a few weeks.

The ideas to import are nice, but as we're not near a border it wasn't a practical thing to consider and any savings would be wiped out by transport costs.
