So there are many Dachwohnungen that are built with balconies so that they adhere to the law that they are not a full level of the building but like an angled roof. Such balconies will be “open” on the ends. My question is to what level can one get away with putting up a Sichtschutz barrier, or having plants, or whatever, which form a sort of “wall,” which would likely violate the 45 degree rule if it were a real permanent in-built wall. But if it’s removable or semi removable, looks nice, etc, is it maybe fine? I am thinking some nice looking real-wood semi-see through kind of fence-like Sichtschutz— or plants, also not 100% opaque but just offering some feeling of privacy. And does it matter if it’s “removable” or not? And then maybe it makes a difference also, whether it is right at the corner of the building or somewhere more towards the middle, or angled in some manner???
one can clearly go exactly to the level that is accepted by the municipality and the owner of the building
which also depends on that how annoyed will be the neighbours, and how much they will complain to someone.
my personal opinion:
Removable is vital! You would need to get building permission for something that is built. And btw something that is fixed with screws is also removable.
Plants should be the best option, but check the house rules what they are saying about them.
According to my observation those bamboo "walls" are also used very often.
And I hate printed or coloured glass, but hey, it's your balcony.
Okay yes that’s what I had in mind. Screws or some kind of fasteners so they are safe if it’s windy, but removable when I leave, and also removable if there is a complaint and maybe I can move them to a different location and make them happy. But yeah I agree; important that it looks nice and what I am looking at when I say wood is not like cut/processed wood, but rather uncut wood with the bark still on it. Similar to the bamboo you mention probably, except with haselnut. Should look nice I think.
Should I ask my landlord or no? I just never know whether to ask or if that would just invite them to invent some dumb reason to say no, when if I had just gone ahead maybe they wouldn’t have cared.
