They sell the Medela bags at the drogerie near my house (the one in Coop Center Eleven, in Oerlikon). I would ask at your local drogerie or apotheke, since they can order things (usually they arrive the next day).
PS; the word you're looking for is "Muttermilchbeutel"
Some people use ice cube trays and then pop them out and store them in another bag. Would make it easy to make sure none is wasted as its easy to grab the right number.
It's much cheaper if you take those ice cube one-way bags, fill in the milk, write the exact amount of ml on it with a water-resistant pen - and then freeze it. Every time you need milk, just defrost the amout you need - there's much less waste of milk than if you take the Storage Bags you get at the babyshops.
Everything pregnancy (and baby) related is a lot cheaper in Germany. The dm drugstore chain has several brands of breastmilk storage bags suitable for freezing (although they do not stock the entire Medela range). They have shops closeish to Zurich in Jestetten, Waldshut and Bad Sackingen.
[QUOTE=tom tulpe;1293547]Not especially sterile, are they?
no, it's not sterile. But is a breast sterile? I've got two totally healthy kids - they survived the milk out of those bags, and as soon as they take toys into their mouth, you can forget having a sterile surrounding, anyway...
Breast or bag is not quite the same is it? For storage I'd prefer to make sure the bags are sterile and do not contain contaminants that can leech into milk. If such contaminants are sufficiently worrying in feeding bottles, where the milk is contained just for a few minutes - I don't like the idea of the same happening for long/ish term storage.
has anyone been able to find freezer trays made out of silicone or BPA-free plastic? i was on the baby-walz site linked above, but didn't see anything.
i'd like to freeze milk in 30 mL increments so that my liquid gold/freedom is wasted less often . seems like a waste to use a plastic bag for such a small amount. and whoever said not to cry over spilled milk didn't pump it herself!
Verbier, thanks for the links. I was hoping to be able to get something and start freezing this week. Oh well, perhaps I'll just have to wait until my trip home this fall.
If you are using the Medela system they have bags you can attach directly to the pump. Store up to 150ml/bag.
You need to be a little "gentle" with the handling when you take them off the pump to avoid contamination (this info coming from my resident "expert").
