breastfeeding allowance

in my "Living and Working in Switzerland" book (2009 edition), the small section on childbirth in CH mentions that a nurse will make a visit to your house after the birth and provide a certificate if you are breastfeeding, and that some communities pay an allowance for this.

does anyone know which communities do this? would it be via gemeinde or kanton?

anyone have experience receiving this allowance?

thanks!!

I have lived here 24 years, & had 2 babies here, I've never heard of this allowance.

There are over 600 Commune/Gemeinde in Switzerland, so good luck finding one!

Seems to depend on your insurance company, not on a canton/gemeinde. See this post

Assura doesn't give it for example.

I'm with Progès and they didn't pay anything for breastfeeding. They did cover the costs of a breastpump, though. Not quite the same but saves a bit of money nonetheless.

Plus my insurance covered the cost of a midwife coming a few times which included breastfeeding support.

CSS does this.

When my kid was born I asked about all benefits, this came up and they sent me a document to sign confirming that you at least breast fed for one month.

You get 200CHF , once the doc signs it of course.

Then if you rent a breast pump you get a refund of X%, i believe it was 75%, not sure.

Or you get (I think its 200-300) a Breast pump credit for your first breast pump (If you wish to buy one).

They love breastfeeding here, so they want to encourage you as much as possible. Call your insurance provider and ask for any and all discounts, if someone does not know or brushes you off, call back again or write to their HQ.

Good luck.

Why the groan Botzibaby? Either explain your groan, or remove it please.

I have since decided you need a groan, because you are quoting from out of date publications.

dear Sbrinz

your answer was not only unhelpful, but unnecessarily rude. i am not planning on moving to a new house based on which of the over 600 gemeindes provide a breastfeeding allowance, i already belong to a commune and a kanton but thanks

i specified that my edition is 2009 because it could very well be out of date, hence why i am asking my question on EF (after i tried searching)...so thank you for my first groan in return <3

to the other members that actually tried to help rather than go out of their way to make me feel like an idiot, thank you for pointing me in the direction of the insurance provider rather than the gemeinde...much appreciated!

I cant see anything rude about SB's post, just a usual helpful post, a dash of cynicism but justifiably so based on personal experience.
