Brunch in Zurich

Thought I'd keep this separate from the Restaurants section since this includes Bars and Cafes. This list has been compiled mostly from recommendations from the expats-in-zurich mailing list. As this is a popular request, I thought keep the list public. If anyone can add to this, please do.

Booking is recommended for most of these places. List goes:

Bohemia http://www.bohemia.ch (Kreuzplatz)

"I love the fresh OJ and good coffee. Also the pancakes. Full english is available."

Iroquois http://www.iroquois.ch/iroquois/ (Seefeld)

(and maybe its branch in Oerlikon, Cheyenne)

"Full english available. I found that it had less choice than Bohemia."

Imagine (Hbf)

"Not tried personally but has been recommended by many people."

La Terrasse at Limmatquai 3. (Just beside Bellevue)

"Great Sunday brunch, eat inside or outside, but book in advance for the best tables."

Marriot http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/ZRHRN (Glattbrugg)

"A friend of mine just mentioned having taken some clients to brunch at

the Marriot in Glattbrugg. I haven't tried it myself. "

"The Sunday Brunch at the Renaissance Zürich Hotel is all that you can wish for. I work there, so I know what I am talking about. They will start serving again mid-August..."

Movie restaurant (next to the ABC Kino)

Across the street from Zurich HB. Lots of outdoor seating (30 or more tables).

"...excellent Sunday brunch the last time I was there"

Restaurant at the Rote Fabrik http://www.ziegelohlac.ch/index.php (Wollishofen)

"There is a nice restaurant at the Rote Fabrik where you can get brunch

for around 20 CHF... The Rote Fabrik is kind of a theater/music venue on the lake near

Wollishofen. It's got kind of a bohemian atmosphere, but I think

anyone would enjoy it for brunch. They open on Sunday at 11:00 with

gipfelis/bacon and eggs and start serving a few more dishes at 12:00."

Seerose http://www.dinning.ch/seerose/ (Wollishofen)

"does a fabulous brunch and in this weather is the ideal location. Perhaps a little pricey but the location is great."

Hi Nanda,

Thanks for this. I have often bemoaned the poor state of breakfast in Zurich, but in the last couple of years the situation seems to have slowly improved. It's still not a breakfast eater's paradise but we are moving in the right direction!

I thought I might add a few comments to a couple of places you mentioned above.

Bohemia - I gave up on bohemia a few years ago after getting consistently miserable service and not-so-warm breakfasts. I recently went back and discovered a pleasant change. Service was vastly improved and the food much nicer. I can recommend the pancakes with rum cherries. The price seems a little steep at CHF18, but the portion of cherries is generous.

Iroquois - Also a decent selection, a little less expensive than Bohemia (both are owned by the same company). Be warned - brunch lasts until 4pm and happens on both Saturday and Sunday. Great if you are looking for brunch, but you'll be disappointed if you are looking for lunch!

A friend of mine celebrated her farewell party with a brunch at the Baur au Lac. They offered all one could ask for, and the garden is very nice in the summer - but it costs CHF 70 per person.

I just found a flyer for the Imagine brunch. It costs CHF 29, and they serve from 9 to 2p.m.

Imagine? Thats in the Hauptbahnhof right? I hear its fantastic. Big buffet style all you can eat but always really busy...

Hi Lynn,

Yes, it's Imagine that's at the Hbf. Next to Nordsee on the top level.

I've also heard wonderful things about the all-you-can-eat brunch buffet.

There is a good brunch place in Meilen, on the lake side - just passed the ferry terminal to Horgen, after the curch (on the left). Sorry forget the name. Best I had so far, and have tried all the above mentioned.

Tex

There used to be a great place in Meilen near the ferry there called "Navahoh" and it was right on the lake. Then a couple of years ago it disappeared. I mean diappeared. The building: gone. Never found out what happened to it.

dave

Thanks for the tips.

I'm going tomorrow to sample one of these establishment's fare.

My mouth is watering already, but that's probly coz I'm starving and have a mild hangover

Hey, have fun. And let us know how it goes.

The Londonstore guy in Zug told me Bubbles (?) does the best fry up in Zurich.

Anyone know anything about Bubbles?

Wouldn't mind having someone else make my Sunday lunch (can't even pretend I make it up in time for breakfast, or brunch for that matter)....

Haven't been there. You'll have to give us a review

"Wir bieten-English Breakfast (Sa/So)" (we offer)

Will do, looks like the Londonstore guy was on the money....

If the review reads well though maybe I'll save it for the magazine....

But then only you gets to read it

Grrrrrrrrrrr!

Navajo Meilen as far as I know moved to the opposite side of the road, redesigned and renamed itself LöwenBar...

They still offer food and there's a restaurant attached.....

Best

Baur au Lac does a great Sunday brunch which is buffet style with a huge selection of foods. Great in the summer as you can sit outside in the garden.

A bit pricey for every week but good for special occasions.

Hi

Went to Bubbles a couple of weeks ago, definitely a good Sunday brunch but haven't tried the others to be able to compare. Only down side is that it was a bit smokey but am gradually getting used to it!

Thanks to everyone for these suggestions for Sunday Brunch in Zurich. Does anyone have suggestions for Winterthur? Alos looking for good places to eat in Winterthur in general...that is smoke free if possible.

Beverly

Hi Beverley,

Probably would be a better idea to start a new post for Winterthur

I"m guessing some Winterthurians will not bother with a Zurich post. Hope you find somewhere good.

I've been to Movie restaurant a couple of times, it was often very crowded and needed reservations, but the food was nice and freshly made. Last time we went to see Hilton's brunch at flughafen and it was a little classy (boring) but not so good and quite expensive. It's 59 chf per person excluding soft drinks. They had good quality food but had no pancaces and I don't think it should be considered as a sunday brunch without pancakes... also, they advertise it as "panorama brunch" so you expect to see a nice view of the city but only the ppl sitting at the window can look out to see those nice highway junctions, mobile antennas and chimneys, lol. Not in Zh but near you can have a brunch in Brütten, the place is called Stars and Stripes (so its American), and it's OK. Never been to Imagine but they say it's the best.
