Bruxism since almost a decade

Hello,

Does anyone here else deal with Bruxism? I have it for almost 10 years (started when I was 15/16) and it never really stopped.

I have since then used a Guard/Protecting thing and its a part of my body now after using it for that long time. Of course, I went through a lot of them. After you get a new one, its maybe better for a week or two and after that, you just use it for not ing up your teeth more but:

-I have so much headaches and "verspannte" Muskeln especially my whole face feels so tense.

What I already did: Mouthguards, Physio (which helps a bit for sure), medication, botox.

All those things help for a bit, but I will still ing grind my teeth every night. The underlining problem is not going away and people telling me: "Dude its mental so you need to relax" won't help either.

I read about : "neuromuscular dentistry" also on an old thread here but I couldnt find a dentist doing this in Switzerland. All the dentist I visited said: More than a mouthguard we cant do".

If anyone found a solution or a help in the right direction, I would honestly pay you a free dinner in whatever restaurant you chose.

Yes, im desperate.

cheers

I used a baby teether to break this bad habit. It still happens sometimes but not as serious as before.

I don't have experience of this, but osteopathy is great for muscle tension and realignment.

I've been wearing a guard for some 20 years, and just like you, it's now a part of my body. So much so that I can hardly sleep if I'm not wearing it.

Yes I know bruxism, maybe not as far as you experience it, but I do. I agree, simply saying it's mental and you need to relax won't help. But for sure there is always a stress factor behind bruxism. Muscle tenseness, in the jaw or in the back or anywhere else is generally the result of stress/anxiety. In my experience, treating only the tenseness side of bruxism only is treating only the symptom, and not the cause of the problem, so it won't solve it - or maybe you will finally get rid of bruxism but your body will express this stress in another way (more headaches or muscle tenseness somewhere else). It would greatly help to work on your stress/anxiety source(s), and eradicate them as much as possible. Depending on what these sources are, it could be more or less difficult.

Beside this aspect, if you're open to homeopathy I found Kalium Bromatum quite helpful.

I struggled with bruxism (and the resulting headaches and upper back aches) for years, and what finally helped me to stop doing it was taking Magnesium Glycinate supplements. Also, occassionally upping my calcium intake to help with the magnesium. I also found that taking epsom salt or magnesium chloride flakes baths before bed helped (can be a good way to get magnesium into your system).

I guess magnesium glycinate is the best form of magnesium for absorption and also doesn't cause stomach problems as many other forms of magnesium do. I've had trouble finding magnesium glycinate here in Switzerland, so I order mine from iherb.com, which has very cheap international shipping charges.

I forgot to mention an easy exercise that can help relaxing the muscles, to complement other measures: simply slowly open the mouth, and keep it as wide opened as possible for a few seconds. It will certainly not be enough to solve the entire trouble, but doing it several times a day (e.g. each time you think about it) can make a difference at night.
