Building your own house..

Dear EF-ians,

We 4 families are planning to build a house by buying a plot.

I have no clue where to start.

Any heads up will be greatly appreciated.

Is it cheaper to buy or to build your own house?

( mind we are min. 4 families)...

Regards,

Akki

Before running, one must walk... have you ever pitched a tent ?

On a more serious note, you can look for a large plot of land on the typical house websites like homegate, comparis or immoscout24 just to get an idea of the prices. I would also go look for an architect in the area where you want to build. You will need him to design the building(s), and he may have an ear to the ground as to available land. Many plots are also sold by developers, who will want to (for a commission of course) help you with designing and putting up the building(s)

Another option might be to convert an existing industrial or office building into a multi family home. Especially now with covid, the office market is not doing too well and an affordable, suitable building might be had for cheap. Dont know about whether or not you need rezoning for this, but that should not be too hard to get advice on.
