Being from the green belt of London i grew up only ever seeing cabbage butterflies.........which even in the last 10-15 years have decreased some what in numbers.
Since being here i have noticed an abundance of amazing coloured butterflies, having never seen butterflies (other than on the telly) with my own eyes i thought it was pretty cool.
Im sure there are others on the forum who are far more knowledgable in the butterfly department.
Did you take that photo in Switzerland? May sound a daft question but I just haven't seen a butterfly like it. If so, where was it taken and roughly how big. I'm an entomologist, so quite like to find out what species it is.
I have not seen many butterflies here, mainly brown moths (that like to decimate my food cupboard when I am away), but I haven't been out looking much either...clearly I should!
This doesn't look like any Eurorean Butterfly in my books or the Natural History Museum database. If it was in Switzerland, I am guessing that it either escaped from a collection or was seriously blown off course.
Being the very trusting person that I am, I was giving you the benefit of the doubt that it might have escaped from somewhere like the Papiliorama, Swiss Tropical Gardens at Kerzers.
