Got my Kindle (the cheapest one) from digitec.ch. Arrived next day in special Kindle packaging, and works like a dream. Loving the ability to download UK "The Times" via wifi and then read it on the bus in the morning.
I brought the "Kindle Fire" from states this month, nice bit of kit, shame I can't get to download anything , even the free stuff as need a US address + credit card. My advice is wait until the UK one comes out for all those that still have links to UK.
Why not get an Samsung Tab 7'' ( it's almost the same ) and install the Kindle app ? no restrictions, can buy books on amazon, not dependent on US services
I got a Kindle as a Xmas prezzie, and its great, a bit n the heavy side but nevertheless, its great.
I am registered with amazon,de, but I find that the English books and especially the magazines, are very few. If I remember corectly there are only 8 magazines available to down load. I would really like to subscribe to National Geographic in English. When I swapped to Amazon.com, it would not accept payment, I need a US credit card and address.
Is it the same for Amazon.co.uk?
Is this right, can I not get around this, because its quite frustrating.
Apart from all the books you can buy from Amazon there are tons of free ones. You can buy cards from Amazon with various amounts of money on them to save having to do acredit card transaction for each book you buy.
3G module: Unless you've subscribed to some newspaper and you want to download the newest during your commute I don't see much of a benefit. With wifi pretty much everywhere (at home, at work, or abroad in hotels/coffee shops) you can pretty much download new books and carry them with you the rest of the day, week, month...
Touch: If you plan to buy alot of books on the Kindle itself, I'd go for the Touch (or Keyboard), since its easier to type in and search for book titles, etc.
Kindle (plain) : If you are only going to use the Kindle as a reader but buy most your books on your computer, you might as well just use the plain kindle with the 5-way button.
I got myself the Touch from Digitec and am quite happy with it. The only thing is you can't yet order a casing to fit the Touch...
My husband got me a kindle last year for Valentine's Day. He ordered it from Amazon (the US site) and it arrived within a couple of days. I've also got a case for it with a little light attached to it (that was a birthday present). I love my Kindle. Easily the best gift I've ever received; I've used it a ton and it's especially handy for plane rides to visit home- so much easier than carrying a few books around!
I have ordered several ebooks via Amazon.com and have not had any problems (no extra charges or anything).
I got the Kindle Fire at Xmas from Digitec, took an hour to crack and unlock it from the rubbish Amazon site. It's now a fully functional tablet, watch HD videos and have Android on it.
I download the books from torrent sites for free, got to love Android!!
Something to remember for 3G, regardless of its usefulness, is that it is locked down for the Kindle Touch. Apparently only Amazon and Wikipedia are allowed, while there are no surfing restrictions for the Kindle Keyboard.
Well me, personally...hubby got me a tablet (actually, he bought himself one and didn't like it so he bought a different one and gave me the first one) and I don't really like them. They're too awkward for me. And while I love my little HTC phone and do have the Kindle app I think I would probably get annoyed trying to read a book on that after a while. But, of course, that's just my opinion
That plus library use is why I got the Sony reader rather than the Kindle. Because of weight and screen issues I would also rather go for a dedicated reader than a tablet.
I second Dawiz and recommend ordering from Amazon directly. Amazon.com has great customer service. I recently broke my 1.5 year old kindle and called them to see what my options were. I ended up getting a brand new replacement for half the retail price, and it arrived in 2 days. They also comp'd the import fee.
My stepmom has a kobo and it is really heavy compared to my kindle with keyboard. But she loves using it for the internet.
I also got a kindle for christmas. My husband ordered from amazon.com and I buy all the books from amazon.com without any problem. It works great.
Only thing is when I try to buy books from .de it said I need to move my account from .com to .de. I didn't know if I could move my account back to .com so I ended up not being able to order from .de. Does anyone know the consequence of moving the account? Can I move back and forth between .com and .de?
