Buying from Ali Express

I was thinking of buying this jacket. Any opinions? (Quality etc)

Don’t. Clothes from Ali Express etc are made of horrible plastic materials. Think cheap Halloween costumes.
There’s a reason why they are so cheap.

Not everything from Ali Express is rubbish but clothes are.

As Tom said, the material is polyester, so plastic

You need to check the dimensions as Chinese clothes are on the small side, there is a size chart in cm so easy to check.

I have bought jackets from China but only in cotton.

And then add two sizes to be on the safe side.

rubbish… or no… the truth is that you’re buying exactly the same thing here in Ochnersport or Decathlon, but then why to order them from China to save maybe 10 CHF?

Keep looking also on Galaxus, many times they have a really nice deals without advertising them as deal-of-the-day, and you have 30 days to return it.

PS. sure too cheap to be true is most likely rubbish, but 40 chf is a normal price for a standard poliester, it doesn’t have to be toxic, that would be 5 chf or so

The things are not exactly the same (unless you talk about some particular case).

I ordered a neck strap for a smartphone on Ali Express for something like CHF 3 and on Galaxus for CHF 9. Although they both looked nice on the photo the one from Ali was of the very bad quality (all parts of it) and went to the garbage and the one from Galaxus had such a great quality that I order several more colours for my family. My daughter is using it every day for several years already and it is still in great condition. Maybe the same high quality phone straps are available cheaper on Ali, but you never know before you order.

agree, with cheap things, < 10 CHF you have to really find a trusted lead. There are legitimate products on Ali but it takes time to find them.

For example I couldn’t find a product on Minisforum EU web, found it only available on Amazon.com which doesn’t ship to Switzerland, so I wrote to Minisforum and they pointed me to the legitimate store on Aliexpress

I have plenty of great things from AliExpress, also under CHF 10, but it’s wrong to think that the things sold under the logo of European brands will be the same quality as an average similar stuff you order from Ali. Even if they are made at the same factory like many think the branded ones will have better quality than the noname.

Am exception is well known Chinese brands like Xiaomi. The fitness tracker Xiaomi Mi Band ordered from the official seller on Ali will be the same quality as the one sold on Galaxus, but much cheaper.

again, what I’m pointing on in this discussion is that these “European brands” are selling directly on Ali exactly the same products. The only hurdle is to find the match because they don’t use the same brand names there, last resort you can just ask the “European brand” for their Ali direct seller nick (Ali even started to provide link to the commercial registry certificate, which again could list different brand than used in EU), that’s what I did last time

And here the same jacket for 142CHF. Thats crazy.

The only thing that’s crazy is you think it’s the same jacket.

The cheap one is cheap polyester.

The more expensive one is cotton (and polyester).

When you deduct cost of packaging and shipping, I wonder how much budget is available to make the product? Imagine the quality you can expect from that.

There’s both good and bad stuff on AliEx. You have be careful as there are frauds and rip-offs, but when things are too cheap to be true, it’s a warning sign.

I expected the same quality as for the things sold for 9.95 in Swiss shops.

CHF 3 is a normal price for a piece of cord and a few metal parts.

I will give this a miss.

seriously, both products are without reviews, that literally tells you “buy a surprise box”. Regarding clothes I wouldn’t buy anything online even from European store if there’s no fuss-free return guarantee.

Arrrgghh! Ban fast fashion!

so I’ve made a tour today around Zug for a winter jacket. Most of the stores didn’t have my size of the things I was willing to buy. Most of the things priced ~300 chf smelled badly, felt somewhat like a compressed/recycled plastic and have fine print “made in vietnam”, “made in romania”… one jacket which I really liked was in the shelf of 50% discount, for 4xx chf, but not my size so I asked if they’ll have my size and could reserve/order it for me, the answer was they ceased the business with this brand, only are selling out whatever they have left…

In the end I bought an average (some may say mediocre) jacket made in USA for 280 chf, of course everything is a recycled x,y,z in this jacket, fairly advertised on the attached label insde… but it’s comfortable, well sewed up (no loose strings popping out here and there, nor things popping out through the material), and most of all doesn’t look like a jacket for non-binary weirdo like most things in other shops :face_with_tongue:

Its simply a great looking jacket. Why cant they sell something like that here with good materials.

It might be good looking on the photo but not in real life. That is the biggest problem with goods from Ali. Or the materials might be different from what is indicated in the description. 100% cotton is often not 100% and sometimes is 100% polyester, leather is in reality PU etc.

Also here!
In Switzerland, the term “leather” is not clearly defined. Therefore, a furniture store could theoretically sell imitation leather as “leather.”

In 2018, the furniture store Diga was selling fake leather chairs as leather for over CHF 400 each.

It seems they based this on selling them as leather (Leder), not as real leather (Echtleder).

Here in German language

I don’t know if these regulations have changed.
