My husband and I must replace our washing machine, as the old one has died - this is a house that we can only use during the summer, so while we would like to buy something that is of reasonable quality, we are unwilling to spend thousands of CHF on it. The cheapest washing machine available from the local plumbers is about 2000 CHF!, and our old standby for other appliances, Ikea, doesn't sell washing machines.
Can anyone tell us where we can get more reasonably priced washing machines, say around St. Moritz or in Graubuenden more generally? We can also drive into Zurich or St. Gallen, although it is about 2.5 hours each way. Any ideas?
I know that prices are higher in CH, but all the prices we've seen seem to be 4 times those in the US, and we live in Manhattan! What is a reasonable price for a washing machine in CH?

a few hundred meters from the Autobahn.

Sorry don't know anything in your area but as for Zurich, Try Media Markt in Sihl City - we bought a Siemens washing machine there for CHF 670
We went to media Markt in Singen (over the border in germany) for the Siemens tumbler which dropped the price compared to Media Markt in Zürich from 890 to about 530... worth it for a day out.
There is a MediaMarkt in Chur, save yourself over an hour drive time.

Try Fust - they sell a brand called Novomatic, which I believe is their "own" brand. These white good are considerably cheaper than the big brand, and whilst they might not be quite as good quality, still offer good value for money.

Sorry to hijack but if anyone has a washing machine going in the Basel area please let me know as I need to get one before my baby arrives (I can't imagine trying to keep everything clean with our current laundry schedule!!!)
