Hi all,
I intend to buy a bike soon, a Honda CB500F.
I don't have the second part of the license yet, so I will need to get some L plates I know, but how does the insurance work do you know?
The place is 500m from my house, so that's not really an issue, but how can you get insurance before you've bought the bike (and had it registered so you know the license number etc). Do you work with the dealer on that when you buy, or is there a grace period?
thoughts welcome,
thanks
Call the insurance, give them the details of the bike including the Stammnummer written in the grey card; the dealer can give you that.
Get an offer, sign it, and send it back.
Go to STVA with the old grey card, and they will go in the system and see that the bike is insured, and give you a new grey card + plates
Put the plates on your new bike, and ride away.
Enjoy
(same works for cars)
Thanks Don, nice and clear.
Never bought a new vehicle before, always been second hand and sorted this way before insurance was needed for driving.
I was romantically thinking about buying, getting on (hopefully not dropping it) and roaring off into a golden sunset, but I will instead get the details and then wait a bit.
Please check with your insurance, but you can probably also get an offer for your bike without the Stammnummer and then they leave it open.
You go to the STVA, they give you a Stamm, and you call the insurance right there, and they sort it online immediately.
Did it like that when I imported my car a few years back
I bought a bike last week and the dealer took care of my insurance and registration over the last few days while the bike was being delivered. I just needed to show the learner licence. Pickup tomorrow
and the weather's meant to be great too, I'm so jealous!
What did you get?
