C Permit and long absence / address

Hi all,

I have a C Permit. Next year I will be traveling outside Switzerland and will be absent for a long duration (approx. 6 months). I have already resigned from my job and would ideally like to resign my apartment as well to avoid the rent. I do not want to completely deregister from Switzerland though. I’m fine with paying the health insurance etc. but want to avoid the apartment rent as it’s a big amount.

As I understand, one can be away from Switzerland for a maximum of 6 months before one has to deregister. My question is, do I need to have an address in Switzerland for these 6 months? In other words, do I have to deregister if I resign my apartment i.e. don’t have an address anymore in Switzerland?

Thanks a lot for your views and answers!

I believe you definitely need an address in Switzerland if you want to stay registered. Is moving to a cheaper apartment an option ?

Note, however the stay abroad must be less than 6 months.

Under certain conditions you can put your C Permit on hold - but they are pretty strict conditions

Hello,

you need to make a declaration within 6 months of leaving but the max duration is for 4 years --> See below the official form fom s commune in Vaud --> http://www.coppet.ch/dl.php/fr/515bc...n-permis-C.pdf

If you don’t have an address you can’t be resident. If you’re not resident then no need for a permit. Simple as that. Either find a new, cheaper place, or don’t give up the current place.

or say that you are living at a friend (who is ok with that...) ?

They’ll still want to know the address and probably will change the address on the permit - so new permit plus cost of address change.

hello All

hope can someone clarify this to me

can a holder of permit C quit his job and continue to live in Switzerland, same rented apartment, file his taxes, live from his overseas rented income.

is this possible? will the gemeinde continue to renew your permit C?

is there a link to read about this scenario or someone has done this before?

your comments and answers are be highly appreciated

thanks

You don't need a job to renew a C permit, so I don't see any issues.

Yes, it’s possible if your income is still enough to support yourself on.

Your possible main problem that I can see from your profile is you don’t speak German and to renew your C permit that may be a requirement under the new permit law. Check with the cantonal migration office to be sure.

i can speak German OK, but not like a swiss but i can manage to express myself and have a conversation.

everyone is talking about integration, but integration is not something that can be measured.

1-you can know some of the swiss culture, food ectt

2- you can have some swiss friends

3- you participate in swiss cultural gathering ect....

the question is: what can someone do, to be considered to the immigration authority as being integrated.

since integration in a society is something that comes naturally, the more restrictions and rules are made to it, it will only happen in fear and not by choice.

can someone put us in the direction what to do in order to be considered as integrated ?

thanks

Speaking the language is one

Talk to your cantonal migration office to find out what criteria they set.
