Cable Modem (Replacing Thomson THG520)

Hey all,

The previous tenant of this flat had the above router and somehow he survived with it (there is only one Ethernet port and NO WIRELESS). Now I want to buy a new router and modem BUT I am used to ADSL/phone line modems, this is a cable modem.

So basically I need suggestions of models and if possible where to buy them (I've heard digitech is good). Thanks for your contributions guys!!!

P.S. There's no CableCom on this road, so sad as the building it relatively new! Instead I'm stuck with CableNetSwiss.

The cable modem is supplied by the service provider

Copntact your service provider for a replacement

You cannot use any modem, the cable modems are authorised by MAC address. If a MAC address is not known to the company, it won't work.

That's most likely because the modem doesn't work as a router but as a bridge. At least that was the case with all the modems I had from cablecom so far. If that's the case then you can connect a router/firewall of your choice using the ethernet port. No need to change the modem.

If you are not sure, check with your provider first.

Thanks guys,

Hopefully CableNetSwiss will get back to me, I rather not pay them CHF 10 a month or 189 for a modem/router that has no internet. If I can bridge my own then I might opt for that.
