But it's the (to me anyway) the Holier-than-thou-how-dare-they tone that got right up my nose at the top of the thread
"They have BBC in Switzerland? I don't belieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeve it!"
If the BBC/ITV/Film4 Channels are available on Swizz Cable, it should also be available on German Cable. I just want a part of Fairness and Justice with the EU Cable Market. It should not be possible to leave some countries out of it. We need a European TV Market, not a Regional one.
And as for sleeping dogs, i really like to kick them in their balls
why should it ?
Why does he care that BBC/ITV are on Cable if he is getting it on satellite ? Its not affecting him directly. Is it the principle that someone is benefiting when they shouldn't ?
Das ist nicht dein Bier.

"Indeed how very swiss. Was it the inconvenience that the Volvo driver was blocking your intended space ? Or was it the principle that they had the audacity to take up two spaces which offended your sensibilities ? Its important to separate the two things."
BBC One is high quality TV, ITV1 has some nice Programs but mainly is "Unterschichtenfernsehen" as we say in Germany. But also it has many US TV Shows that MANY people in Germany want to watch. Or - all around Europe People want to watch these in 16:9. Film4 is another really GOOD channel with very good Movies.
If in Germany a Cable Company could provide these Channels, surely many people would have the pleasure to change from analogue to digital cable.
- Digital Cable has really serious issues here due to missing quality programming.
Liberty, justice and cable for all.
Secondly - Switzerland isn't a part of the EU so any 'EU Cable Market' arguments for 'fairness 'you might have go right out the window.
If you really want to see it on cable in Germany, lobby the German cable providers. My guess is that there would be less of a concentration of English-speaking foreigners in any given German city than there would be in somewhere like Zuerich, which is why Cablecom offer the service but German providers don't.

ITV offers essentially inferior programmes, including a lot of US soaps. ITV does, however, provide Champions League footballl with English commentary and some good movies. As of March 1, 2007 Bluewin TV is adding ITV 3 to its range of programmes. It is interesting to note that Bluewin TV does not offer BBC 1. One reason may be because Swisscom owns Teleclub that has sports channels showing premiership football. BBC 1 on Match of the Day shows highlights from all Premiership games and also has live FA cup coverage. Cablecom may have also concluded a deal with the BBC to have exclusive rights.
Its is in German, but here you got a Bundesgerichtsurteil
My goal is to get BBC/ITV etc on German Cable, and if they can ́t do it because of legal reasons, there is NO way that cablecom.ch or bluewin.ch have the right to do so.
as said dozen times here, specially BBC One/Two/Three/Four Cbeebies/CBBC and ITV1/2/3/4/CITV are made for the UK market and noone outside the UK or its Bordercountries has the right to put them onto their cablestations.
The Bordercountries "Overspill" exception is taking effect in Netherlands, and due to the Footprint of Astra 2D there ́s also the technical availability in the bordercountries - which does not give the right to re-distribute the signal in any cablestation.
Film4 is abit the same, but explict collides with Broadcasting Rights of Movies - Film4 does not pay the Studios for showings outside UK. Film4 would have to pay to the Studios for each country, just like RTL or SAT.1 do.
RTL and Sat.1 or ProSieben do pay the Studios the money for the "outside-germany-in-german-Language" Broadcasting Rights. These are fairly small but DO sum up at the end of the year in their balance, and thats why RTL forces to go crypted just like SF1,SF2 and ORF1/2 on Satellite.
Film4 would have to pay a fairly larger amount of money because of the english spoken Movies - thats why Film4 is on Astra2D which only "spots" on UK, Ireland and some overspillcountries.
Many Words, one conclusion - Cablecom.ch and Bluewin.ch cannot be legal redistributors of BBC or ITV and WOULD not be on Film4 because of Financial Troubles AND the Fact that Channel4 which is the Company behind Film4, is partially a Public Service by the Country like BBC or ITV Fundings.
Swiss law is not German law.
The "Bundesgericht" approved that ORF can be distributed in all parts of Switzerland even if you don't get it with your antenna. So we can assume the same goes with BBC. BBC can be received with an 80cm dish almost everywhere in Switzerland.
I doubt the politicians will change the law. You saw the outrage about Rai Uno. Rai Uno, ORF, France2 and ARD are now "must-carry". So why should a politican do something. This is Switzerland; they don't kiss the ass of the movie industry.
Unlike Germany we get our movies here on SF without commercials. Also we are a quite small marekt. 7 million Swiss VS 70 million germans.
We got a liberal copyright law. You can drive with 300 km/h on your highways, what we can't. But do I try do stop Germany from speeding? No!
I think most of people who watch english channels over cable or satellite would pay a tv licence if that was what was required in order to ensure access to those channels. If you compare what you pay as a tv licence in the UK compared to the overall cost of tv here it is a pretty good bargain.
If I am willing to pay for it why can't I get US tv. In the age of broadband why are we limited to some archaic geographical distrubtion of tv.

What cable companies show is all about whether the product they transmit is lucrative. That is why Kabel Deutschland offers Russian, Greek and Polish language packets that do not exist in Switzerland because there is no or little demand. By the same token we have in Switzerland French language packages that are not on offer in Germany.
Remember Switzerland is not Germany and both countries are governed by different laws and treaties in the field of copyright and broadcasting rights.
Germans can do 300 on their highway, we can't.
Dutchies can smoke pot, we can't.
Americans can kill someone who is trespassing, we can't.
At the end of the day if you do not want to be dependent on cable operators invest in a satellite dish.
Anyone knows whether UK channels such as Film 4 can be received in Switzerland via the Internet using Slingbox technology?
But my source was a Bluewin boss, so not sure how accurate this is...
